Post-Game Talk: Leafs Book Their Tickets for Game 7 [MOD WARNING in OP]

I don't understand what pressure these losers are facing. Pressure is a single parent trying to feed their kid. These losers play a kids game for a living. Go out there loose and have fun for f*** sakes... Losers complain about trying their best, winners go home and f*** the prom queen.

For a division winner loaded with veteran “superstars” the first round is a stepping stone. Like maybe a large step at times and more difficult than you’d expect, but you put your opponent away and you aren’t wracking your soul on basic ass hockey concepts like take it to the net, don’t screen your goalie and don’t gift 2 on 1’s to the opponent on a PP.

So we consolidate the choke onto one line to create a super choker line?

Sure...

But more to the point, we've made our bed with this group, and Matthews/Marner combo has proven to be elite over time... but as we are discussing, they tend to choke.... this team is NEVER going anywhere, unless they find a way to not be chokers. Splitting them up doesn't change this in the least. They are the two top players on this team.. if they can't perform when it counts, they can't... (and it's time to make changes)... but you live by the sword, and you die by the sword. We aren't going anywhere, unless they can find a way to be elite when it counts... shuffling chairs on the titanic doesn't change that.

Should Robertson go back in for Patches based on these stats?

Our challenge has consistently been in games we can close out series. Yes, our guys put up plenty of points, and goals early in the series... I posted Marner's stats just above, but it's closing it out. This group has lost 13 out of 14 games, where they could have closed out a series. You count on your best players, to be their best when it counts, and they haven't been at any point in their careers. The first three games were great, they all performed very well.... but it's when we have to close out that it counts... Time to exorcise those demons, or they are who they are.

The Leafs have not scored a power-play goal in a close-out game since April 25, 2018 1-31

I don't think Robertson has been a game-changer either, but Pacioretty has made the line worse.

They struggle to score, and I think in the bottom six, Robertson is clearly the best goal scorer, so it seems logical to add another threat.

Brother, this team continues to buck statistical trends and youre still holding out for them 🤣

They're like 0-30 on the PP in series clinching games. Run the numbers on that, its an insanely unlikely outcome but it is reality. They are what? 1-13 now in series clenching games? Please show me any core from any sport with a worse record than that. If you gave them an even chance to win each of those games (50/50), its like a 0.15% chance of going 1-13. But yeah, keep thinkin this core applies to the laws of statistics

You can't find another team like this because no other team would get away with pissing on the fans heads like this for this many years.

Bill Barilko disappeared for 11 years, how many years are we at for the Austonflation disappearance? 9?

Whether it's their teams, or the people around them, these guys ALWAYS seem aware of the noise around them.

The 'pressure' comes from them totally knowing what is being said about them, and how it cripples them.

I’m pretty McDavid and Draisaitl know what people say about them too every time Edmonton has a conniption. You know what they do? Their jobs.

Marners Playoff Career by game since the start of round 1 vs Boston in 2018

• Game 1s: 5 G and 7 A in 10 games

• Game 2s: 4 G and 8 A in 10 games

• Game 3s: 0 G and 11 A in 10 games

• Game 4s: 2 G and 11 A in 10 games

• Game 5s: 0 G and 5 A in 10 games

• Game 6s: 1 G and 1 A in 7 games

• Game 7s: 0 G and 2 A in 5 games

The rest of this series, is pretty much career defining, and future defining.

These Leafs, and Marner are the opposite of clutch performers.
Matthews stats aren't much better. Both need to moved on from asap.

Playing Marner and Matthews together all season is idiotic. Berube didn't even try a different combo for 10-15 games straight. What is the regular season for?
To see if Marner can play D on the 5 forward PP?
Was genuinely very disappointed by that. We even saw how Marner could carry a line for long stretches without Matthews this season, and even that wasn't enough to keep different combos. Now it's too late and you're married to the combo until they finally separate for good this summer.
Keeping these two together pissed me off since the season started and that's definitely my biggest beef with Berube. Many people seem to love Berube but I would never have hired him to begin with if this was his plan.

Well, Tre and Shanahan certainly don't seem to mind it. They're hell bent on making this work one way or another, despite all the evidence to the contrary. I hope that shit stain Shanahan is gone this summer for good.

that's 2 shorties
and a 4 minute pp in OT

The league has done everything to give us the win

Even then we somehow find a way to lose

The 4min PP in OT was a bad omen foreshadowing what would come.

I clicked it off then. And I largely watched this game as background noise while I packed the luggage bags with the fiancé.

The Leafs will be on vacation soon whether they beat Ottawa or not.

And quite frankly, and thank god.

I will be too.

I did not pack my leafs hat and opted for Team Canada instead

We're still up 3-2 in the series and in the driver's seat. Turn the page on last night and win tomorrow and go from there.

Indeed, we shouldn't get too worked up, or emotional about these things... even though this team has a terrible track record in such games. They have two more chances to close this out, and they should win the series. We can get worked up, if they fail to do so.

Berube was only reason we came back.
And the upgraded D core.

The core 4 however. Needs to be split.
We knew this 4 years ago.

Shed anything Dubas touches or influenced

Oh well this upgraded D core and coach haven’t yielded better results. It’s the goalies that have improved, still don’t know why everyone chooses to ignore this 🤣

Like how you can watch this team go to OT twice in a row and then lose 3-0 against a team that doesn’t even look like a threat and takes outrageously dumb penalties left and right and think this is some new and improved team is beyond me.

We’re slow, we don’t play a style that suits our team and Berube is a nicer Babcock

Theyve won one series in 5 games or less since 1963, and that was when they swept Ottawa.

This franchise just has pathetic statistic after pathetic statistic.
I misheard then, thanks for the correction. Yeah still pretty pathetic. But hey, we're blessed to be able to watch a number of all-time Leaf greats play with the current group right? Gotta be at least 3-4 guys on the team who will be taking their place on legends row when they're done playing right? Right??

The few who keep simping for this core at this point are embarrassing. Blaming depth players like Lorentz lmao, maybe if the top six could engage themselves physically like Lorentz they'd have more goals.
Don't think many people are "simping" with the core. It's pretty ignorant in a team game to ignore the faults of the bottom end of the roster though while just shitting on the top end. They are still contributing to the game on the scoresheet.

While I don't expect them to carry the team, I expect your 3rd and 4th line to win their matchup every now and then, not go even or lose it most nights.

Simon Beniot has the same amount of goals as 6 players combined & more points then any players in the bottom 6
OEL has more goals then 6 players combined & more points then any of the players in the bottom 6.
Morgan Reilly has more goals then 6 players combined & more points then any of the players in the bottom 6.

Surely I can't be the only one of thinks this is fine and a winning formula.
