Post-Game Talk: Leafs Book Their Tickets for Game 7 [MOD WARNING in OP]

97 points is usually pretty good to get in no?

I havn't gone back to check and I can remember 1 year where every Western team had 100 points but I am pretty sure 97 points always is at leastva WC spot.

In my opinion, the difference between 105 point team and a 97 point team is pretty small in a 7 game series.

5 wins over the course of 82 games figuring in injuries, schedule is tough. I am not talking about Tor/Ott here.

Tor was/is clearly the better team and have less than zero excuses to win this series.
Alrighty I stand corrected. 97 points ain't that bad.

But I know for a fact you're a smarter poster than to try make any excuses for Toronto's efforts these last 2 by glazing Ottawa.

I understand how people love to crap on this team, but the reality is that the odds of a team coming back from 3-0 to win a series are so low that common sense says the leafs will ultimately win. God know they won't be tired after this series because it has all the intensity of watching paint dry.
The reality is also that we've been outplayed the majority of this series and are up on the back of bad goaltending and bad bounces for Ott

That's been the season, but goaltending has bailed them out a lot.

I hope it does it again, but this team plays 50/50 hockey at best and hopes they get the last bounce or the goalie bails them out.

This is disingenuous because you’re not including the goals scored by defencemen, a few set up by bottom sixers. The majority of the top 6 goals in early games scored on the powerplay, which don’t get me wrong they should do! To say they weren’t team wins the first three is wrong in my opinion. However, I do think the third line has been really poor the past few, but the 4th line has been good. We absolutely need more from our top guys in these elimination games. That’s what they’re paid for.
In what way is it being disingenuous? You have access to the same stats I do and can search it up and see it... Apart from 3 goals in the series, 2 of them coming back in game 1, the top line has been apart of 12 of the 15 goals in the series.. even the ones scored by d-man..

1st goal of game 1 - scored by OEL and assisted by Jankrok, Laughton.
5th goal of game 1 - scored by rielly assisted by robertson, mcmann
OT winner of game 2 - scored by domi.
OT winner of game 4 - scored by beniot assisted by matthews.
3rd goal of game 4 -scored by OEL assisted by Nylander.

I'm not giving the top players a pass, but they played well in game 4 (on the ice and reason why they scored 3 goals)and stunk in game 5... but the bottom end of the lineup isn't giving them a chance to win what so ever if they aren't going to contribute to offence at all.. They literately aren't scoring UNLESS they are on the ice..

Tor has less than zero excuses.

Even winning this on Thu won't take away how awful last night was. Unless they control the game from start to finish and score 5+ goals. Even then there has been too many signs that nothing has changed.

That paints a better picture, the only lines not playing even hockey (or worse) are the top lines.

People like to be negative. When the Leafs win this series, those same knuckleheads will be hanging out of their car windows driving up Yonge St.
I mean, I know they lost 3 in row at least once this season, but I don't think they have had 4 game losing streak, so hopefully it ends in game 6.

No you didn't - you were making predictions they were gonna end it in 4 after game 3.

And regarding intensity - you truly must be new to this team. This is standard Leafs playoff intensity at this juncture of the series, been like this since day 1 with this core.
After game 3 I thought it would be a sweep, like pretty much everyone else.

I mean...Domi wins us game 2 in OT assisted by Benoit....Benoit wins game 3 in OT. Yes Matthews assisted on that one with a faceoff win. But that is the definition of your depth stepping up and scoring big goals to win you games. Putting this on the depth players is just absolutely asinine. You pay Matthews, Marner, Nylander the money you are paying them to push you over the line...and win a matchup against Shane f***ing Pinto.
3 goals have come in 5 games when the top 6 isn't on the ice, 2 of them being all the way in game 1.. 4 games ago..... in other words, in 4 games, 1 goal has come when Toronto's top 6 isn't on the ice.

You will not win any series when you're entire bottom 6 doesn't contribute to the offence.

Oddly enough, I just found out what glazing meant the other day. So I feel good understanfing your point!

And teams have come back from 3-0 to make it 3-2 or even 3-3 (as Edmonton did in the Cup final last season), but the percentage of teams that come back from 3-0 and win a series is so low that it is extremely unlikely to happen, no matter how negative everyone here is.

But are you atleast "interested" in the series yet?!?! Or is Toronto still so far above Ottawa's level it's barely worth paying attention to?!
Barely interested is a good way to put it. This has been some of the most boring playoff hockey I've seen in a while. It is completely media-manufactured "intensity". The games themselves are dreadful hockey.

People are blinded by the hate towards the top players, it's amazing they can ignore the rest of the game and what's going on out there -- but refuse to put any blame on the depth of the team..

It's like they don't understand hockey is a team game, if you want to win the entire team needs to be playing well.. not just the guys making the most money..

The bottom 6 going even or negative game in and game out isn't a way to win a series, let alone 16 games in the playoffs.. at some point you need your bottom 6 to actually win a matchup.
