Another big test. Be good to see the new guys in, see how it plays out. Would be nice to see Tanev back and have a full lineup but we need him healthy for the big show so whatever it takes. Assuming we see Stolarz in net?

Avs swapped out sooo many guys before the deadline. But not oh boy are they deep.

I wasn’t able to keep up on many other teams aside from the Atlantic teams

Watching tonight I’m going to be surprised by all the changes in Colorado. I don’t think I’ve watched them play since the necas deal

Carlo and Laughton are expected in the lineup. Tanev is doubtful, but close to ready.
Throwing the new guys into the lineup. The post-deadline games are always must watch.

The team will look different once Tanev returns and the new players aren't just going to jump into a new system and team smoothly, but it usually has a team focused on letting the new players know that they believe "we are legit Cup contenders".

Should be a fantastic game.

Hopefully if the new guys have a slow start people are understanding that new teammates and systems take some time to get climatized to

This is one of the reasons I'm generally skeptical about acquiring rentals this late in the season: Sometimes it takes a lot more than 18-20 games to get used to a new team, system, etc. Especially for defensemen.

And in Carlo's case it's highly likely he's going to be tried out with a few partners between now and game #83.

That's a valid point. Still, we only added 2 guys instead of 5 was it that we picked up 2 years ago? Sometimes players picked up at the TDL are great, Schenn worked out will 2 years ago so we just have to hope that these two new guys work out just as well and it's definitely with the realm of possibility.

I'm also not so sure about Carlo and different partners. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him play with Rielly and nobody else going forward, seems like a perfect fit.

In any case, I haven't been all that excited about watching the Leafs lately, just waiting for the playoffs to start really but my interest level has now gone up a few notches. I just hope the players show some life, and some excitement. Matthews wanted us to add, we added, he's the captain, he needs to act like one and set the tone going forward. I would be really pleased if we saw zero stinkers between now and the end of the season. If this team is going to go deep, they need to start playing consistent playoff style hockey right now.

Agreed.

The ideal is always for guys to have time and ideally training camp together, to learn new systems and new team mates, and both Laughton and Carlo are drawing in tonight without even having a single practice on their new team. They will be all kinds of out of sorts tonight.

Disagree though on Carlo being tried with different partners, as it serves no purpose and Berube will want to get him as much time with Rielly as possible before the playoffs.

McCabe-Tanev is about as set in stone as you will find in our lineup, and rightfully so. Berube will lean heavily on them, and there's no point in trying Carlo there.

OEL on the 3rd pairing will absolutely feast on weaker competition, and will be partnered with Myers, who clearly won the job from Timmins and as a natural RHD has a decided edge over Benoit playing his off-side. The coaches are high on Myers and his skillset, along with OEL babysitting is a good pairing to put together from now, so that they also develop chemistry for the playoffs.

Rielly-Carlo is a pairing that has a lot to like and is easily one of my favorite moves, and has all the makings of a long term impact addition that ranks with the McCabe addition.

Treliving finally added a 2RHD that has term and checks off so many boxes, and I think we are also going to see a better version of Rielly. The sooner those 2 get on the ice together and develop some awareness of and chemistry with each other, the better off we will be, and that needs to start tonight, with no revolving of partners.

Tonight and moving forward we need to see until Tanev is back:
McCabe-Benoit (we know these 2 work together and Benoit is strictly a placeholder until Tanev is back)
Rielly-Carlo (I'm giddy typing that! Still in disbelief)
OEL-Myers (these guys could be very good together, and the sooner they stick to each other the better)

Love how Treliving has built this defence. It's as good as I can honestly remember it being.

I predict a huge loss tonight. Can't let Leafs fans get comfortable or anything.

Plus chemistry, etc.

How are there still 20 games left? Regular season is way too long.
