Leaf talk with Andy Frost

being of the generation that grew up with paul morris andy was way over the top ... the quiet monotone voice of paul announcing goals through the 60's, 70's. 80's, 90's did not prepare us for andy ...............
miss paul --- "toronto goal - 14 keon, from pulford and horton.. time 11:25"
Russian names gave Morris trouble. And Yvan Cournoyer.

A legend. Understated and dignified. The crowds at the Gardens didn't really need assistance in getting excited.

I remember listening to Frost and then staying on the dial to listen to Spaceman (RIP). What a weird juxtaposition of radio shows that was!

I always thought that Mike from Buffalo made good comments and suggestions on how to make the Leafs a better team. When are they going to bring back a radio show like this?
They won't. The radio industry is dying because the companies that own the stations are gutting programs and outsourcing shows. That's why after a certain time you'll hear ESPN or another American stations show on instead of Canadian content. Source: Am former radio host.

So many content creator nowadays... even a dabbler like Dangle can have his own podcast, a YT channel, part-time gig at SN and even able to publish his own book.

Anyone else miss the shit out of this show, or just Andy Frost in general?

Don't miss him at all. I have no interest in listening to fan calls on the radio. And as long as the arena announcer is competent, I don't care who they are.

Isn't the radio industry dying because fewer people are listening to radio meaning that advertisers are paying less for advertising or just cutting it out of their advertising plans entirely. As a result, stations have less money and must look for cheaper programming. I imagine it's only gotten worse the past year because of fewer people commuting -- don't radio stations make most of their ad bucks off of drive time programming?

I can't remember the last time that I specifically listened to radio. I've tuned into TV shows that are simulcast on radio.

How many people now listen to podcasts or spotify playlists where they used to listen to radio?

I just started to listen to deep left field podcast for Bluejays baseball, but it's only once a week I think Thursdays. I miss calling in and voicing my opinion and hearing others.

Vito from Woodbridge you're on the air.

Hi Andy, wondering what you think of trading Hoglund, Markov and a 2nd rounder for Eric Lindros? Really think this would put them over the top for a Cup run.

"Hi Andy, MAT Sundin really stinks. Hes so soft. What do you think about trading him for a bruiser?"

TV is actually doing worse because people are cutting the cord and streaming now. They're scrambling to cut costs and figuring out how to get people under 40 to keep overpaying for cable and satellite. People still listen to the radio on the drive to and from work. The average listener only listens for under an hour daily but theres plenty of ads in there. Most TV viewers now are streaming with no ads.

was funny when people would throw shade at sundin and frost would get miffed. we had quite a few sundin haters back in the day

There are always haters. I am sure if this exact show, Leafs talk with Andy Frost, was on now there would be haters calling in about Matthews, Marner, JT, etc. Although, Mats Sundin was a unique case because he was a European captain and fans at that time weren't used to that. "Soft Euro", right?

If the NHL ever gets its act together and offers me one easy way to stream every NHL game (hell, every Leafs game), my cord is cut the next day.

All of our non-sports entertainment is streamed. All of it.

Yup, it's all content wars nowadays. I dont have cable myself but use 5 different streaming services. I'd purchase the NHL streaming service but its outrageously expensive.

Looks like Mike from Buffalo found an outlet for the nonsensical on Dwayne's site. The drunks from Woodbridge, however, i feel bad for them. They're probably still pining for Domi and Cujo to come out of retirement.

I've always felt that this market gets absolutely screwed by not having a place to go after a Leafs' win to revel in the victory. God knows... on a typical Saturday night... the CBC goes to a discussion of the second game in a nano second after the Toronto game is over. Why can't "Leafs Nation Network" kick in with a post game show right after the game broadcast is over?
