LD Zeev Buium - University of Denver, NCAA (2024, 12th, MIN)

lol what, he's not going to make the Olympic team over like two dozen established NHL Defensemen
Like I said in my response to Itor, odds are against it but I believe Buium will have a rookie campaign very similar to Faber's, whom had there had been the Four Nations in '23, was good enough to have been one of the 3RD.

The Olympics takes place mid-season next year. The team will be heavily pre-selected before the season. I doubt Faber would have been picked for 4 Nations in his rookie year just because of timing. Buium would have to be Bobby Orr reincarnated to get placed on the Olympic roster. Someone like Hutson had no chance for the 4 Nations this year.

If Buium plays in the Stanley Cup playoffs and plays well, he has a chance to make his mark.

One thing he has going for him is Guerin is the GM of USA for the Olympics. No one will see him more than BG, but agree the odds are long.

A rookie isn’t making the US Olympic team. Hutson will probably win the Calder this year, and didn’t make the 4 Nations team. He may not even have time to make the Olympic team, and he’s a year ahead of Buium. And all this is keeping in mind Hughes didn’t play 4 Nations, so likely one player from the defense is getting cut anyway.

You only need so many offense first Dmen, and USA has those two in Werenski and Hughes. True two way Dmen like Slavin, Sanderson, McAvoy, Faber, and the like will fill out the rest of the roster. Fox(IMO, the best comparison to Buium) is still around, also. Didn't have the best 4 Nations, but it sure would be hard to pick Hutson over him.

Buium is more 2-way than you give him credit for. He was tasked with shutting down the big BC line last year, and again this year.

Yeah, he was used in that capacity at WJC's, while Hutson was the balls out offensive Dman. Still don't think he is the defensive guy that Faber or Sanderson were as college players. I think he does his best work at the opponent's Blue line.
