Sounds like he’s finally had enough and trying to force his way out of that dumpster org. Who can freaking blame him. They have never believed in him or given him a chance

NYR is the perfect example of what a rebuilding team shouldn't do.

After 2-3 years of "assumed rebuilding" they switched to "win now mode".

And they haven't been very good at developing, partly because of that.

Too many top 10 draft busts and a 1st overall pick that haven't really paned out as an impact player. Good player but not great like a 1st overall should be.

The NYR is an organization that have it about the most easy in the league but for a long time, haven't really been able to capitalize on it.

An organization with a fat cat mentality.

I’ve stuck up for Jones a lot, but I feel like he’s getting a lot of sympathy right now he shouldn’t get because people simply want to trash the Rangers when they’re down.

Jones got a chance this year. And he blew his chance. He wasn’t putting up points, he was way too aggressive with his positioning up the ice, and he’s small and that creates challenges in his own zone.

Do I think he was the biggest culprit when he eventually was taken out of the lineup? No, but when you’re a 5’10 third round pick with good, not great offensive skills you aren’t going to have unlimited chances. Team needed more stability on the backend when he was taken out of the lineup.

This is what the NHL is. I don’t feel like he’s been treated that unfairly. I wish NHL teams and coaches didn’t have fetishes for big and tough and bad at hockey defensemen, but they do and for what the situation is for a player of Jones type he hasn’t done enough to say he’s getting screwed over worse than the archetype tends to when they are good, not great for the profile.

I really doubt it changes on another team with another coach.

Cool post mortem on a team that has been 5 wins away from winning the Stanley Cup two of the past three years because of 6 bad weeks.

Now let’s do the Habs. How about your 1OA pick and the season he’s having?

Please, I know it’s easy to trash the Rangers for opposing fans because the team has had a rough stretch, but there’s nothing here that calls for it. You’re just opening up an off topic can of worms.

This exactly... many fans think certain players should automatically be on teams. Jones simply hasnt been good enough to play in the NHL full time yet. He has been given opportunity and hes not taking advantage of it.

Maybe one day a team acquires him in a swap of underperforming players in hopes of a change of scenery will help OR maybe NYR has tried trading him and no teams are interested... who really knows

I won't argue they have a fat cat mentality but way more rebuilds fail than succeed. They won more the last 3 years than most rebuilds. Really tired of rebuilds being held on this pedastal.

Organization has been in the playoffs and conference finals more than almost all organizations in the league in the last 20 years and probably more than any organization that hasn't won a cup other than maybe the Sharks. So f*** off with your "dumpster org".

He’s been one of their 3 best D-man. Certainly better than miller, lindgren. The need his puck moving in the lineup and to let him play without fear of every mistake resulting in a healthy scratch. The same treatment Kakko got.

Lindgren is still in the lineup, miller is still in the lineup. He has been better than both. Stop

But you can't compare NY's "rebuild" to your typical rebuild. You add the best goalie in the league, a Norris winning dman that only wants to play for your team, and a superstar that wants to play in your city to most rebuilding teams and you're going to have success.

I think thats one of argument a small dmen like him not to get drafted - does great in college - then he picks the best spot for him. Everybody wants get drafted but after say first round its crap shoot so sometime being free agent is better coming out of college .
