Zero retention available from Ottawa, and not dumping him by any means.
26yr old top pairing Dmen don't grow on trees, so let's not pretend like they do.

Sens wants/needs:
- Legit starting goalie (no rentals and youth is a bonus)
- 2LW to replace DeBrincat (again, no rentals and youth is a bonus)
- Lower end RD to 'replace' Chabot at a lower salary
- Other assets that can be used directly to get the needs above

Potential add-ons with value:
- DeBrincat as a 1yr rental at 50% (~4.000)
- Prospects such as J.Bernard-Docker, L.Thomson, T.Boucher, R.Jarventie, Z.Opstapchuk, etc...
- A.Forsberg or M.Sogaard if a goalie is involved (depends)

Note:
I also like the idea of Chabot for Karlsson at 8.000 straight up and am curious if Ottawa could get the assets San Jose would desire to land EK. Either way - just guaging interest on Chabot.

There’s a group of Blues fans who want to trade Kyrou for Chabot.

This trade makes more sense maybe in 2 years if Chychrun kicks ass and wants to re-up and Sanderson has taken big minutes + cap space away from Chabot imo. 8m also might be more palatable with a rising cap in 2 years. Not really gonna be able to find a deal I'm guessing.

Because he had one underwhelming year after getting driven into the ground with ice time by the coach. Not to mention a carousel of D partners.
basically this

he starts off the season playing good hockey then by march he looks bad because he is playing over 25 minutes consistently and fans cant seem to figure out why (sarcasm). Only reason his average is under 25 for this season is because he left a couple games early due to injury (shocker)

Chabot should be playing between 20-23 minutes max. Ottawa has the personnel to do so as well but the sens coach and the lack of defensive system makes it unlikely

Ottawa should sell high on him. One of the most overrated players in the entire league.

But ottawa is a really horribly run organization so that won't happen.

Seems a daydream re return, worth more to OTT than most, look at OEL, and the josh Bailey dump just now
Teams been handing out too much salary too often, nhl ain’t NBA, skill/contribution can’t outweigh Cap Hit reliably w Cap SO flat

But it only takes one buyer, good luck

If you read the OP, you'd see he's not being shopped. If no one wants him then Ottawa is happy keeping him. A 26yr old 1D making 8.000 is not the same as Bailey and OEL lol

I have a two time winning Vezina goalie who played a big part in getting his team to the Finals. Signed for a 3+ years too!
He's young compared to the average lifespan of a human.

Deal?

Ok that's pushing it. He's a minute-munching top-2 D. Definitely not a high-end top-2D but he is one.
Has been worked to the ground; with a more balanced top-4 he should round out his game (excellent puck-moving guy who is good to decent in his own zone).

I see why people think Chabot is expendable now as Sanderson will be their best D man as soon as this fall and they just made the big move for Chychrun who will likely extend here around the same dollar value.

But Chabot just had a down year, the only Chabot trade that makes sense to me is for EK back with a bit of retention. Otherwise it doesn't really make much sense to do that now. Remember he was the first one to commit long term while we were in the dumps. Trading him right when we are actually contenders for the playoffs is just ridiculous.

Their Top 4 consists of Sanderson, Chabot, Chychrun and Zub. It's their best Top 4 since the mid 2000's and better than any D core we had with EK. And we trade Chabot before even trying it?

I get they have Sandy/Chych/Chabot as LHD but Chychrun can play RD this year and when Sanderson is ready, they will flip.

Sanderson is the best bet to play on his off-side as he is the best player and skater of the 3. He's Heiskanen-lite to me and Heiskanen has looking incredible on the right side, so I expect a similar transition with Sandy.

What’s the goal here? You don’t trade players like Chabot. You’re right. They don’t grow on trees. You have to draft them. Do Ottawa fans really want to wait another 6-7 years for his replacement to take charge? No way. This team isn’t far off and they have assets to fill their holes.

Why is he suddenly expendable?
Because the entire sens fan base is spoon fed bullshit narratives from a half a dozen terrible social media accounts. One of these morons undoubtedly suggested this one day and the naive masses drank it like water in the middle of the desert.

They think the coach is not a coach but a literal idiot who has no idea what he's doing. They think the GM is an idiot because he acquired "not so great" players during a rebuild. They blame losing for four straight years on both of these guys as if the rebuild never existed.

Long story short, I wouldn't read anything into stuff like this coming from sensland... Chabot is certainly one of these least likely players to be moved from this roster.

Nothing wrong with having the discussion though!

He's not. Just some poster starting a thread to see his trade value I guess, but we have no one in the pipeline that can come close to replacing him. That and some wishful thinking in bringing Karlsson back, in which case Chabot will have to go, but I doubt that will happen.

What is this fresh hell?
Trading Chabot is absurd, he’s a #1D…wtf is this? lol

We finally have an amazing D core and let’s F it up before it gets to play together. Insanity.

Matheson has so much more value with his cap hit. If he continues to perform like he did in the back half of last season, he's going to gain trade interest as the next season or two moves along.

Habs have a very good young group on D coming. Not sure where Matheson fits over the long haul. He could help a contender more than us in the next 3+ years.

Habs haters are going to belittle Mattheson but they also have not watched him play so I really don't care. Take notice... He's just as good as Chabot and at almost half the cap hit.
