2nd in WHL scoring for D. If things go well, he will be our 2nd best D at the WJHC behind Jiricek. That's a nice start on the backend!

Is this all Connor Bedard carrying him to easy points? He is destroying it.

Lately from the bit Ive watched its been Svozil starting to do his own thing. Early season Regina's entire game was give Bedard the puck and watch. Now Svozil is being more aggresive and using his strengths like rushing the puck. Here are some assists from a recent game. He scored in this game also if I am remembering correctly.

Thanks.. glad it isn't just easy points from Bedard. I stand by he's Tyson Barrie which I'm fine with. Roams a lot. I'm glad he isn't cherrypicking Bedard because the Czech team has nothing like a Bedard this year. Our only prayer is that the D can carry some offence and Stan seems poised for the job! Won't have to adjust to rink size either!

When I watched him live I wouldnt say he was a roamer at all. That doesnt mean he doesnt hesitate to jump into the rush if he see's an oppurtunity. He was as physical as he needed to be an his strength actually looked pretty good against his peers. Obviously dont see future Norris level defense but I think hes grown a lot in that regard and didnt look to me like a guy that floats around aimlessly.

Czechs currently have 1 NHL d that gets points . Rest are warm bodies or stay at home D. If svozil became a roamer... I'd actually be happy lol I say Barrie as a pure compliment. Long ways to go to NHL though. Hope he makes it. AHL next year will be telling

I agree that he's looked better defensively lately which is really promising because that's where needs to be sharper if his dream is to be a top-6 D in the NHL. I don't think he can rely on his stickhandling and skating skills at the next level to be mainly an offensive minded dman a la Barrie, he's not that great with the puck as stats may suggest. In Columbus we have seen D prospects such as Kris Russell and David Savard transform from big-time junior scorers into reliable two-way defensemen in the past, I can actually project somewhat similar path for Svozil. This year it's still acceptable to have fun scoring gazillion points but in the AHL he should really start to emphasize on defensive details with pro league coaches.

Before CBJ decided to send him back to WHL this fall, they advised him to get stronger this season, and by Svozil's own words that was the only thing Jackets wanted him to focus on in his development. Perhaps he's already gotten stronger which could partially account for the "elevated" play he's been having lately?

Part of it could be just being in the presence of Bedard and Suzdalev who must have been a great confidence booster, at least on offense. In the last couple of games I've noticed that Pats have iced other dmen for PK so Svozil has only received PP time on special teams. Maybe as a result the overall ice time has dropped and he's had more energy to play more aggressively in reduced minutes?

Whatever the case is with this recent hot streak I certainly hope it will carry over to the world juniors.

Him and Jiricek both looked a step behind in summer and I swear I read something that said he wasn't 100% because it was still preseason. Maybe him and Jiricek both used it as an opportunity to get ready for training camp. They both certainly left some room for improvement at the World Jr's! I think Spacek ended up leading that team in minutes in TOI for D. This time I'm hoping it's Jiricek then Svozil then Spacek in TOI. That could be a beautiful D core.

Your Russel analogy is good.. Klesla and Smid were also not meant to become just stay at home D but did carve out NHL careers doing just that.

The points are insane right now but I don't watch Regina games so I'm real curious how he looks on a weaker Czech team playing against stronger competition. Does he carry it and help or does he succumb and his weakensses come out (eg. he took some REAL stupid penalties in the summer tourney!)

There's no mention of it in this thread but my memory was that Svozil was coming off of a shoulder injury that he sustained not long before the tournament. He took some very dumb penalties and looked extra weak in front of the net (weaker than his usual) so I could believe it was still bothering him.

And Jiricek for his part just had covid and his legs looked wobbly all tournament.

Watched him tonight and he looked alright, 2 assists but neither were particularly good primary assists. There were a couple of times he activated at the wrong time and ended up losing the puck and being behind the play and a couple of times he got stripped of it, but I thought he played okay.

18 points in his last 8 games... it's a heater for sure!

He had 17 points in the first 17 games which was pretty good tbh.

Really curious what the next 10 games bring.lol

If he wants to get 12 points in 5 games for us... I'm all for it. No idea who is scoring on those passes though... Kulich and ....?
I really have no idea, take it easy Ticháček, especially if someone like that is ever found:nod:
And here we have the traditional folklore of the czech youth categories, who will be missing from the line-up this time?

What do we think the ceiling is for Stan? 2-way, 2nd pairing dman? I've seen him listed as more of a defensive player on other sites (Dobber), but when i've seen him play, his game looks to lean more in the offensive direction.

I have no idea what his ceiling is, but he is definitely not a defensive type of defender, never has been and never will be. He shows flashes of a very smart offensive game, but quite often he is somewhat inconsistent in defense and also seems to need to strengthen. I also think he could be a faster skater. He could be the type of player Hronek is.
