How do you guys who know a lot about prospects think this kid's game will translate to the NHL? I know he is undersized, but I feel smaller defensemen have never had an easier/protected time in the NHL than they do know. My point being that I don't think he really would of had a chance say 20 years ago at his size, but in today's NHL it's more than reasonable to assume he can. Besides that much and his PP QB abilities, I'm not too familiar with his game. Somebody help me out? Thanks.

I only watched him during the WJC. He's good skater. Good puck mover. Has pretty heavy shot especially for his size.

He has a tendency to turn the puck over (but most puck moving defensemen do). His defensive positioning could use some work too. He took some penalties because he was out position and got beat on play. He also needs to add weight.

I believe Ian Laperriere said he reminded him of a young Duncan Keith at the flyers rookie camp earlier this year. He's a few years away honestly IMO.

Great skating, good offensive abilities.

Needs work on his D game.

He's maybe 2-3ish years away imo. But he definitely could become a top 4 Dman if all goes well
 
Poor-man's Erik Karlsson in my eyes. Great agility, vision, and puck skills but lacks size and is prone to giveaways. Could be a top 4 guy and PP quarterback if he reaches his potential.
 
Comfortably the best player on the ice last night in Union's victory Over Boston College.

Size will limit his upside, but he looks like a great pick in the 3rd round. The organization really needs a pure OFD/PMD type, but he is probably still at least two years away.

The best player on the ice was easily BC's goalie.

Single handily won the game for Union.
 
Saw him extensively at the WJC and was very impressed. Very much enjoy his style of play and wherewithall. Has good instincts and creativity. Seemed to thrive against international competition.

But I do think his upside is in becoming a Jordan Leopold or Keith Ballard type when all is said and done. Some might see that as a positive or negative commentary.
 
He plays such an aggressive game on the backend it's hard to compare him. I could see the Keith comparison (physically). Smooth skaters, good hands. I think Gostisbehere has a better shot, but Keith is the better playmaker at this point and obviously better in his own end. His end to end rushes show flashes of Karlsson, but expecting him to impact the game like Karlsson does is a pipe dream.

When I see Gostisbehere play I see a little Ehrhoff (smooth skating) and Visnovsky (little guy with a big shot). Now those two guys are accomplished Offensive defenseman in this league, so maybe it's a bit of an optimistic comparison, but there's no doubting this kid has the tools to be that kind of player. Maybe it's the homer in me, but he's as skilled offensively as I've seen this year as far as prospects go. It comes down to how well he develops physically and mentally.

Honestly though, he impressed me in the world juniors, and I think he'll play in the NHL.

So far this year: 11 GP, 4 G, 8 A, 12 PTS.

3rd on team in scoring and has the most shots on the team (51 shots in 11 games, next highest is 38).

Imo he'll definitely be in the NHL within the next couple of years if not right after he signs like Kreider, Lee.
 
Gostisbehere is exactly the kind of player the Flyers need. A point producing, puck moving defenseman.
For his size he has an excellent shot, and will make a great trigger man on the powerplay if he can make the NHL. But, I think he is committed to finishing his four years at Union, so us Flyers fans won't be able to see him until at the earliest the 2015-2016 season, but hopefully he is worth the wait.

The Flyers have built a solid group of D prospects, Morin, Hagg, Gostisbehere and Alt. The Flyers defense appears to have a bright future.
 
How about we add some youtube clips on him (I so wish more stuff was on yt about him. His game last year against Boston College in the east semi's was just outstanding).







Those are just his goals, but unfortunately they don't show his skating, passing and rushing ability. During that BC game, he was basically like Erik Karlsson out there, just controlling the tempo of the game out of the back end.

Made tape to tape stretch passes, beat forecheckers with ease using his skating ability (had a nice spin-o-rama to avoid a forechecker), and loves to join the rush.

The thing about letang is he is built like a tank.

Someone made a Karlsson comparison and I can see that. His game is similar. He is going to be liable in his own zone but he gives the flyers a weapon on offense they have never had.

I have never liked dmen whose strong point was their offense and not their ability to play d and that is exactly what Gostisbehere is. That being said the flyers have no one in their system that can be a point producer from the blueline other than him. I see him as a bottom 4 pairing dman who provides us with a legit ppqb with a lethal shot.

I will take that all day everyday.

i mean he reminds me of Letang more-so in the way he approaches the game in the neutral zone and in the offensive zone, not necessarily in the way he's built.

He was actually eligible for the 2011 draft, but went undrafted and committed to Union College. Had a strong freshman year there, and got drafted by Philly in the 3rd round.

He was a bean pole when he got drafted (and still is to a degree, but has gained some weight since getting drafted), so there were concerns about if he could hold up in the pro game.

Also questions about his defensive game.

But he has gotten quite a bit better in his own zone from what I have heard, and his offense has just taken the next step.
