I live in the GTA, I drive DT Toronto everyday.

takes around 15-30 minutes depending on where in Mississauga you're going From toronto (East / west side)

it's around 1.5 hour to buffalo. i go to at least 5 times a year to see the sabres unfortunately lol.

Now if it's 5pm trying to get on spadina onramp going west bound. yeah you'll be sitting for an 45 minutes before you hit kiplin

With all that being said. Powers is from mississauga he won't refuse to sign/report to buffalo if drafted, give me a break. Some people just like shitting on all things buffalo.

Strongly support the local traffic talk

I think folks are reading into Power's decision as more of an indictment on Buffalo than it is.

Almost everyone I've talked to who has watched Michigan/NCAA hockey this year has agreed that Power would benefit from another year in college. That has been true regardless of which franchise won the lottery. Barring concrete evidence otherwise, I wouldn't read into his preference to stay at Michigan as anything more than Power surrounding himself with good advisors who have his long-term development in mind.

Now, was he disappointed that Buffalo won the lottery over teams like Anaheim and Seattle? I mean, probably. I think most people in his shoes would be. But I don't think we have any good reason to believe that Power returning to Michigan is a response to Buffalo winning the lottery or an indication that he's reluctant to sign with the Sabres.

I think it's actually the opposite. He is now an hour and half drive from his family instead of being thrown on the west coast. Let's be honest, your drafting high because your team stinks. He wasn't stepping into an ideal situation with how high of a draft pick he was. At least now he can be close to home.

The way I see it, if you are certain, you feel like you know for sure that this guy is going to be able to play 30 minutes a game for you, and whenever he's on the ice you feel safe and confident that he will make the right play to keep the puck out of his own net most of the time, sometimes even help put the puck in their net, absolutely worth a 1st overall pick.

If you go ask any GM in the league, maybe not every single one but at least most, would you rather have a 1D, a 1C, or a 1W, the answer is a 1D every time because the 1D can play up to half the game. There's a great irony of saying "well what if he ends up like Colton Parayko", well, Colton Parayko logged the most ice time in the Stanley Cup finals when the Blues won the Stanley Cup and became league champions. And there are many top scoring "high ceiling" players out there who haven't sniffed a cup, much less led their teams to one. Not to mention of course, his top 4 roles with over 20 ATOI in the 2016 Semifinal and 2017 Second Round runs. So if I'm a GM and the WORST case scenario for this player I'm about to draft is that he can lead my skaters in ice time to a cup win...I'm pretty ok with that.

I was waiting for this one. I recommend people watch this. Scouch was pretty brutal towards Power and I agreed with a lot of what he said.

Personally, I think Luke Hughes is going to be the better defenseman. If I’m Buffalo though, I take Beniers.

Yup. If I am Buffalo, I probably take Beniers, trade Eichel to Anaheim and take Eklund with Anaheim's #3 pick that you should be getting from them. Or possibly take Wallsted instead of Eklund to solve future goaltending problem. This would give Buffalo a solid center core of Cozens, Beniers, Mittelstad.

I just don't like Power enough in picks that are in top 3 range. From 5-10 range, he should be good pick.

if they trade Eichel to use the pick on a goalie just sell the franchise

Is he really going to fall to the ducks watch a that junior and boring college on a stacked team you want... He showed his worth playing against men when it mattered. Reminds me of Drysdale underration. Please fall to #3.

1. Eklund/Beniers
2. Eklund/Beniers
3. Power

Works for me :)

Buffalo would be perfect for the kid. All the benefits of Southern Ontario, including being 1.5 hours from home, with none of the pressure.

If Power is LD and so is Dahlin... who plays 1st pair?

I would either trade Dahlin and draft Power. Or draft/trade down for a forward.

Tbh Power is not there yet at D end. His interest looks to be offense

I think his ceiling is Brent Burns and not Hedman

Its not his fault but Power also has the size where some team (and I'm hoping its not us) probably wants to make him a shut down D, ignoring that his game and physique aren't perfectly aligned.

People see Power and they think Pronger. He doesn't have that ability or temperament. A good all-around d-man with no one stand out skill. Is that worth the #1 pick, even in a so-called average draft?

I have some problems with this assessment:

1. He said he was put out to not make mistakes in the WC, but he was increasingly better in the tournament. I was watching the semis and final live in the arena and I think he was really good.
2. He says he is sometimes pushed around, which is true but common he played in the NCAA and WC before he got drafted. He is still growing into his body, lmao.

I get the frustration about his agressiveness (including physicality) and maybe a limited offensive potential, but I think Scoutching doesn't take into account the quality of opposition. It seemed the same in his Johnson video.

From what I saw live – he will make the safe play instead of a flashy one, but he is incredibly smart player that for sure should be a huge minute eater in the NHL. I think likely he ends up not the best player from this draft but he is a damn good choice at #1.

Respectfully disagree. Kid is used to being away from home. NHL guys have long off seasons, so he can be there probably more than he does now. plus half the league is from Toronto lol so it’s not like he’s gonna be missing out on people with similar backgrounds.

also think when you’re in the NHL close to home that young it can serve as a distraction.

He’s a 1 pick. No matter where he goes he’ll get every chance and resource. To set up my career, I’d want to go to the team with the most talent to play with, or a track record of developing it. Buffalo doesn’t have it and two “better” recent prospects probably haven’t played to their talent there in Eichel and Dahlin (albeit they’re still young). Just my 2 cents.

I don't always agree with Scouch, but he put into words almost perfectly everything I saw with Power in his play. There are legitimate concerns that are seemingly just ignored because people like to say "He's the next Hedman" after watching a 2-minute highlight video of him.

Nice straw man.

Not one person said he's the next Hedman. People compare playing styles since they're both tall and good at everything. Every single take I've seen said Hedman was better in pretty much every category while still comparing styles. Reason being, there really hasn't ever been a prospect like Power before to compare him to.
