Muhonen is a huge young blue liner with stength and a decent offensive game.
Handles the puck with confidence and moves up into the play, creating odd man rushes. Decent on offensive zone possessions as he can aggressive pinch down the wall or make good keep ins to extend possession time and accuse more pressure. Is very mobile and will walk the offensive blue line looking for space. He has the ability defensively to stick with quick forwards down low in coverage. Plays a big role on the penalty killing unit, getting pucks out and keeping the crease clear. You would like to see him take more advantage of his size and strength.

Definitely a fan of his skating at that size. Could end up as a bottom-pairing PK specialist. If he had more offensive production he for sure would’ve gone higher.

From the Hockey News who ranked him 89th:

Big-bodied kid who moves well and plays a steady defensive game. Not a lot of offense, but he could be a bottom-pair guy who makes a good first pass.

From Elite Prospects:

Muhonen’s calling card is his skating ability – especially going forward – combined with the size and the physical edge. He’s capable of transporting the puck across the neutral zone, also using his feet to gap up early and aggressively to force breakups on top of the defensive blue line.

Medicine Hat would be an incredible situation to walk into.

That team has an ungodly amount of offensive talent and not many good defenseman. Gavin Mckenna will be the 1st overall pick in 2026, Lindstrom just went 4th overall, Basha is 2nd round pick and a tremendous junior player.

It's not unreasonable to think Medicine Hat could challenge for the WHL championship next year and Muhonen could play a massive role and share the ice with future NHL Stars.

According to Scott Wheeler he has another year on his contract in Finland.
Yes he has but getting games in SM liiga is totally different thing.
Muhonen didn't play at all in SM liiga season 2023-2024 so i doubt Muhonen's staying to Kalpa.

Hopefully Muhonen goes to Medicine-Hat.
Better that than playing 5-10 min as a 7th dman vs Men's.
