LD Maximilian Glötzl - Kölner Haie, DEL (2020 Draft)

There's not much to say. His team, the Kölner Haie, is playing a historic losing streak of currently 17 consecutive defeats. DEL record is 18 defeats.
All young players therefore don't get a real chance the whole season. Glötzl spent only one game completely on the bench.
The comparison with Seider is not appropriate. Seider is in a class of his own. Glötzl is the best defender of his age group. In contrast to Seider he is more offensive. The stupid thing is that the Germans would like to have top-level offensive defenders in the DEL, but at U20 level they are trained to be able to make it into the DEL.

Is he ranked anywhere at all? I know some german posters are really high on him, expecting him to be a mid-round pick or so. But I haven't heard his name in draft discussions at all.

For what it's worth, Bob Murray at I believe a season ticket holder's meeting talked about how there were a couple German defensemen they had their eyes on, one of which they think could be a player in a couple of years. Some quick eliteprospects sleuthing had us on the Ducks board thinking one was Glotzl.

I was and still am pretty high on him, and thought he would end up as a mid-round pick. But that was when I thought that he would play at the U18 WJC and get a lot more exposure and a chance to play against some top level competition.
Now I still think a team should and will pick him in one of later rounds, but I don't expect him to be gone before the mid-to-late 5th round.

I’d agree with that. I think the lack of u18 WJC hurt swiss, German and Slovak prospects playing in home leagues pretty bad. I was pretty high on marko Stacha cause I thought there would be u18. Same with a few swiss forwards playing in NLA and NLB. And I’m sure a few other Germans effected besides Glotzl, that could’ve got exposure.

Didn’t look very impressive in today’s game. I heard Germans had a quick turnover time so that could contribute to it for sure. A few very questionable decisions on the point from him. He looked like the D version of Adam Ruzicka at that age in that he thinks he is better than he actually is.

I respect your opinion, but this was a summer hockey game after months of break without much preparation time. What more do you expect than to play a good defense and get into the game? Some people have standards. As if any player was already in play-off form. Next you'll want to sell that Stützle made a great game.

I don't think he is anything special from what I have seen, but will still root for him. People who are hoping he will the 2nd Seider are gonna be in for a treat.

I actually thought very few Germans had a good game. Reichel was their best player and definitely showed why he should be a first round pick. Peterka i don’t know he always seems to be skating and working hard but never pops off the screen. Seems to much like Carl Hagelin to me.

I didn’t watch today’s game but “he thinks he’s better than he is” is an extremely accurate description of Glötzl from what I’ve seen. Great tools but needs to put in the work. Thinks he’s good enough to play in the DEL but he’s not if he doesn’t step it up.

Suddenly he concentrated on the defense and there he acted with a low error rate as always when I saw him. No Swiss player could get past him. The game does not give more important insights about him. His full potential was always to be seen in close games in the last years. There he was fully there and took over the game. I don't know if the whole draft number doesn't shift the demands on the boys immeasurably. These are players, not aliens. Stützle was all over the place yesterday and not a very impressive elite draft.
