Hopefully he can keep rolling and doesnt lose a step... lots of young players hit a wall mid season.... especially many kids coming from NCAA that arent used to playing this many games.

Hutson is one of the reasons why im enjoying watching Habs games this season!

I'm sure he'll keep improving but unless his gets a lot stronger he's going to be an absolute liability in the playoffs.

Seemed like the Leafs had scouted something they could exploit in his game. Curious if other teams keep doing it and how he adjusts.
Sure maybe, but having the personel to execute is another thing and the Leafs have 3 superstar forwards and an overall very impressive forwars group. Everyone isn't able to do what they do

His defensive metrics are absolutely terrible.
He's 20 years old playing the best opposition every game ... What defensive metric is so bad? Last I checked he was top 5 in puck possession. Best defense is offense. You clearly didn't watch him since November if you think that.

Hutson has been getting rolled defensively all season long.

He’s good enough offensively to look over that most games, however. It’s going to continue to be a problem for his entire career. You take the good, with the bad with a guy like Hutson.

Check his xG against and HDCA numbers. He’s bad defensively. Acting like he’s not is what’s annoying. Not everything needs a “oh yeah but he’ll get better” no shit he’ll get better he’s a 20 year old rookie.

I like Lane Hutson, he’s awesome to watch and a Chicago kid. He’s not good defensively.

A lot of talk about him being bad defensively but not a lot of context included.

His e+/- (xGF-xGA) is second on the Habs. His possession stats are top few on the Habs almost across the board. 3rd best GA/60 among Habs dmen (while having best GF/60 among their d), relative stats second only to Struble... He's got some of the better defensive metrics on the Habs.

Really good stats for a 20 year old.

Some posters don't watch and post stats they don't understand. Others are just clueless haters with big bias. Hutson is a special player. Creating like he does will also create bad outcomes from time to time. Overall he's a positive high impact player.

I love how we are talking about defense and include a stat about xGF lol. The Habs are a terrible defensive team and he has terrible numbers relative to the league.

He generates offensive at an elite level. Some of that helps his defense by not defending. That’s fine. His defense is atrocious. I’ve seen him plenty.

he's not good defensively is such a bitch take to denigrate what he's accomplished offensively. It's the typical troll comment to try and reframe the compliments and enthusiasm of his supporters.
The big picture is that he's put up historic numbers offensively, a statement no one can take away, even those most sour and guess what?
he's only 47 games into his career.

Kid is allowed to have a bad game. Leafs keyed on him and he was obviously nervous - as nervous as he's ever been to date.

he actually faced the media music and said he let the team and fans down last night. He absolutely didn't need to do that

If Leafs fans could read they'd be very upset.

lets just call it like it is, he generates a ton of offense, his defense is downright terrible. He's still worth a 62nd pick all day and I think he'll find a way to at least be below average defensively.
I think the chances of him being at least below average defensively are better than you sticking around this thread after he goes on another 15 game heater.

See this is why Hutson went so late in the draft. When he has to defend against the elite players with the speed and strength of guys like Nylander he gets exposed. He’ll get a bit stronger but he also just doesn’t have a good frame for putting on strength, he’s very small boned unlike the shorter guys with a solid frame like Marchand.

I can't wait for more takes like this as the season goes on. We had a flurry of them for about 2 weeks in October then everyone seemed like they had something better to do.

Bad game, but you are right. The 20 year old rookie was outskated and outmuscled by the 28 year old vet making 11m a year.

He's 20 years old....did u guys expect him to be Scott Niedermayer right away?

Kids a stud, small af and overcoming the odds with his insane skill, mental processing ability and compete level, kid doesn't give af how small he is, he just battles and does his thing.

Will there be times his size gets him overwhelmed defensively around his net, sure, but that also happens to every 20 yr old NHL Defenceman including the 6'4 ones.

What he's doing is special, as a blues fan hats off to you habs fans. The future is bright, everyone else hating on this kid is just jealous or extremely incompetent.

Pointing out deficiency's isn't hate, but the non detailed jargon by random fans is lol.

I understand the playoff argument, but let's atleast give the kid a chance to play in them someday before we just assume he'll get eaten alive in ploffs.
