He was one of my favourite mid-late round picks last year. Any comments on his play in the Liiga this season? Stats-wise he looks very good.

2 goals today, pretty impressive for a 19 year old defenseman playing in the Liiga. 3 points in 3 games this season after putting up 19 points last year. I really liked Nousiainen in his draft year and I think Kings fans should be happy with how he's developing.

Crazy enough, he might not even make our top 15 prospects. I'm excited to see him continue to develop though.

As an aside, the Kings have quite the Nordic contingent now with Kempe, Andersson, Kupari, Grundstrom, Fagemo, Simontaival, Sodergran, Maatta, Bjornfot, Grans, Moverare, Nousiainen, Jamsen, Lee, and Markkanen.

Yep I'm really high on Nousiainen but he's still outside our top 10. It's wild.

Love that Blake must really have felt the Matty Norstrom love though, we've got prospects from truly everywhere now.

He was drafted in a round that doesn't exist anymore, we clearly misread him, and we traded him so we wouldn't lose Galley in the expansion draft is all.

Now THIS Kim...the org seems high on! This regime is huge on European skaters.

Not to necro this

But it was more about protecting Fiset and Storr. The Kings didn't want to lose any goalie in the upcoming expansion drafts, so they went to desperate measures and traded a huge pile of assets to Nashville so that the preds would draft 3rd stringer Frederic Chabot (who Nashville then waived so that the Kings could actually claim him right back), which bought the Kings a year of goalie-loss immunity in the *next* expansion draft.

Yachmenev, the less crummy Vopat, Timonen, draft picks... I don't even remember what all went to the Preds, but it would up being a brutal price to pay to keep two sub-standard goalies that didn't amount to squat.

Despite being on the ice when the golden goal was scored, I think Nousiainen showed some puck skills, ability to play under pressure and hockey IQ in the tournament. Just needs to add some more muscle and I think he'll be an NHL player. I think he's spending the next season in Finland and he probably needs a season in the AHL as well, so it will be a while before he can make his breakthrough.

Is it?? what's the translation? That's awesome

Verb "Nousta" means to rise or to get up, and in hockey terms also used when describing joining the rush, or skating with the puck from d zone. From there you get "Nousija" which means riser (someone who rises), and then add "inen" to end to get the diminutive form Nousiainen.

So to oversimplyfy, he's literally smallish guy joining the rush
