The 2021 draft of college crop of freshman defenders is pretty stacked. Hughes, Ceulemans, Morrow, Peart, Behrens - all putting up pretty elite numbers…and that’s for anybody let alone teenage defensemen. And that’s not including more defensive or longer term bets like Buium, Johnson, Hreschuk, Munzenburger, Guillaume Richard, etc…

Don’t forget Ty Gallagher. 11 points in 20 games. Just won Hockey East Rookie of the week for the second time. Also has a Hockey East Defenseman of the week accolade.

Where do we think Peart is at in his progression? Seemed like he regressed a bit in his last year at St Cloud State, now turned pro.
I watched quite a bit of him. He played in all situations, but especially as a defensive guy. The Huskies had one or two Dmen that they relied on for offense before him, though Peart has all the tools(puck handling, skating) to be at least a good breakout man. I thought he was good, but not as good as i hoped after watching him the season before. He seemed to intentionally limit his offensive game. i don't know if that was on coach'es orders, or not.

In his 9 gp in the AHL he looked reasonably good. His skating is more than good enough for the NHL, and his hockey sense is good. Decent at least with the first pass on the breakout. Certainly very average sized, but i wouldn't call him soft. Remains to be seen if he can win puck battles at the NHL level.

He might end up being a tweener, but it's too early to label him with that.
