What a waste of a 4th round pick, this guy should be hitting the waiver wire any day now.

He's regressed all right

Many defensemen (and players in general) regress in their sophomore season. I never wanted Slavin to regress, but I've seen expectations become way to high on HF regarding players/prospects. I've done it numerous times myself.

Your snide response is classic.

I was just joining along with the funny comments, wasn't meant to be ill harmed. There was absolutely a chance he could of regressed this season, it happens to a lot of defensemen. We all have been pleasantly surprised that Slavin has managed to take another huge step in his game this sophomore season instead of regressing.

Apparently the joke comments just fly over your head. The guy has been an absolute monster this year, if you actually seen him play you would understand that all of these comments have been in good fun.

He's a stud defensively, but I'm not sure he'll ever have the offensive ability of Pietrangelo.

Okay. For me that cements the Nylander for him trade talks. If I were to move Nylander it would be for a Parayko. Someone who is big, stellar defensively (or has the potential) and at the same time a 35-45 points per season player. Otherwise the positive synergetic effects generated with the other leaf assets would not make them true cup Contenders.

That's fine. Looking back on the thread I think you are referring to, it was a Leafs fan that was the OP, not the other way around. I bet the vast majority of Canes fans wouldn't give up Slavin for Nylander either.

Also, I'm not saying Slavin won't ever hit 35-40 points, but Pietrangelo has hit 50+ more than once and THAT's what I don't see from Slavin. As a rookie with no pro experience, he had 20 point in 63 games (26 point pace) so saying he might get up to the 35+ range isn't that much of a stretch.

Yeah that is true. When you have something that you yourself has developed and constructed for years, it's worth more to you than when you traded for it. It's like IKEA furniture: the value in the table is not only the function the table fills, but also the proudness of doing it yourself.

Having said that, I think they are on par valuewise in a vacuum but the value they fill are dependent on the pieces around the. In order for med to give up Nylander for him, I would want to have traded Gardiner+ for Trouba in the same time so that the defense is set with one LHD for the Dermott type prospects to fight for. Also if Kapanen continues to impress for a year or two. If all those things come true, I would pull the trigger and deal Nylander for him. Although having three defensemen from the same draft could be troublesome.

But really... If you asked me which current Canes defender will get the most Norris votes in his career I'd go with Slavin. And I think Hanifin is pretty good.
