Not comparing talent, but he's like a Lidstrom style of player. Not big or fast, not flashy, but pretty smart and has a truly great shot, good stick, manages to be effective in different situations.

I agree with this, but also much less involved physically ie only physical of forced into it. If he figures out how to deal with being hit/board play he'll make the NHL.

Was very good against canada, reads the play great and have great zone exit passes in his own zone and a rocket of a shot, feels like a very underrated prospect.

Man I hope he never comes over to play with the Black Hawks.

The Canucks are sorely lacking defensive prospects other than #4-6 types.

Playing great right now for Linkoping, highest +/- of all junior players in CHL and 5th highest in the league. Called up to the men's national team for back to back games against Finland.

Hes gonna be a star hes got it written all over him. Just dominated at last years wjc and bulding on it since then he is going to be good. Its truly a shame we gave him up for waiver clendenning or whatever his name is

Calm down here. I hope he can become an NHLer, but Star is major hyperbole.

What are you talking about, he's in the SHL and has been all year

update:

he currently has 20 points, which is good for 3rd all time for U20 Swedish Dmen in a season. Was 1+1 today, got robbed of the OT winner by the goalie, had 8 shots on goal, 5 shots wide. Needs to work on his straight ahead skating, but he is quick and has great pivots, he is agile, but not fast per say. Stood up at the line to stop a couple zone entries, but then got caught doing it later on, and it ended up in his net. The idea that he has ECHL skating is dumb, you obviously don't watch. Curious to see what he does after this season. Does he play a third year in the SHL or come to NA to play in the AHL? Don't know his contract situation and haven't cared to look yet

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned:

Gustav Forsling earns huge honor as Sweden's junior player of the year

Many prominent Swedish players currently in the NHL won the top junior honor before making the leap to North America. Among the current stars who Forsling joins on the list of winners are Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom, Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and the Sedin brothers in Vancouver. Other big names to win the award include Peter Forsberg and Niklas Kronwall.

So that should give you an idea of the kind of season that Forsling had. While the defenseman wasn't considered an elite prospect entering the year, he was well-regarded and has only improved upon his stock. Now, after signing with Chicago, it's fair to wonder whether Forsling might leap past Ville Pokka as the No. 1 defenseman prospect in the organization (if he hasn't already).

In 48 games with Linköping HC this season, Forsling recorded six goals and 15 assists. He also had two goals and an assist in six WJC games. The defenseman is considered a strong passer with offensive I.Q. to spare who probably just needs to polish up his work in other two zones before he'll be 100 percent ready for the NHL. We'll see if he's reached that point this fall in camp.

I personally didn't mind the trade TOO much when it occurred. Obviously sucked to lose Forsling, but thought the trade was pretty fair and made sense at the time, with Forsling being a couple of years away, and being a similar player to Clendening. Besides, Clendening was a guy i was interested in when there were rumours of Kesler fancying a trade to Chicago one year earlier.

What annoys me SO much though is that Clendening was never given a fair chance with Vancouver, getting traded just a couple of months later. I mean one can argue that it doesn't really matter, that Clendening won't be a force in the NHL anyways. But i just don't see WHY you would make a trade like that if you don't plan to keep him for at least 1 season. Never thought it made any sense to add Clendening in the Sutter trade, Pittsburgh were in a tough situation cap-wise and Boninos great contract made him and Sutter somewhat equal value-wise IMO. Swapping picks and adding Clendening (or Forsling if you prefer to see it that way) just made that trade an overpayment. It really seems like Benning can't keep his cool in these situations, when teams doesn't instantly say yes to his offers, he gets desperate and overpays.

But hey, this is another discussion and not so much about Forsling. Point is, the fact that Benning traded Clendening just a couple of months later, just makes this trade so much worse looking back at it. Should've just kept Forsling.

A great example of the dangers involved with a team trying to expedite a rebuild. To be fair, at the time Clendening looked to be everything Forsling could be, but just hadn't had the opportunity. He'd looked great in the AHL and was much closer to being ready that Forsling.

Obviously that has not turned out to be the case, a very unfortunate trade for Vancouver fans. Time will tell with Forsling, but he's tracking well.

Sure, if you didn't scout him at all and just looked at the stat sheet. This trade just proves how bad Vancouver's pro scouting truly is. :shakehead

this guy is gonna be a stud for sure, but i think he'll go be the man for his SHL team and then come over here. He is here right now but has a clause that if he doesn't make it, then he can go back. Couple older American defenseman on the team signed in the AHL/NHL, so I think he will go back to Linkoping and be their #2
