LD Cole Hutson - Boston Univ., NCAA (2024, 43rd, WSH)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

The net xG on puckpreps cards is broken I think. Every single player card I've seen has their net xG as either 1 or 2, even guys who have high defensive ratings.

Thanks
That clarifies the model
Because he doesnt have great defensive numbers from the BU analysts
everything else checks outs

On March 19th Cole was named Hockey East rookie of year following Celebrini last year and his his brother Lane in 2023.

A native of Chicago, Hutson has been one of the nation's most dynamic players this season. He is tied for first among NCAA rookies, regardless of position, in both points (39) and assists (27). In addition, Hutson leads all rookie defensemen as well as all Hockey East blue liners, regardless of class, in goals (12), assists (27) and points (39); he is third among all NCAA defensemen in points and is second among all defensemen with 1.15 points per game.

Cole joined his brother Lane and Alexandre Legault as the only freshmen defensemen in program history to record at least 30 points in a single season. Cole and Lane are also the only two defensemen since at least 2005-06 to record 10+ goals and 25+ assists in their first 32 career games.

Washington's defense is really good. There's no room for him this season.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't stick around at BU for another year.
I'm hoping he joins next season. Caps currently has 5 D-men contracted for 25/26. Alexeyev will be RFA and Chychrun FA unless they re-sign.

I got to see him live today. He’s such a treat to watch live. He’s much better defensively than I have been giving him credit for. Kid is going to be a star.
He needs to learn to not be so aggressive defensively. If he can do that, he'll be an average NHL defender. He leads college hockey in minor penalties I thought I heard somewhere, and that lines up with what I've watched of Cole over the years. Whenever he misses on whatever aggressive defensive play (whether trying to win back the puck or physical play) he's trying to make, he takes ends up taking a penalty.

Agree about toning down the aggressiveness, which he's done in the second half of the season--but there's more to do. His 64 penalty minutes are a bit deceptive because 30 came in two games where he took a major and a misconduct. The first was at the end of a bad loss to North Dakota when there was big dust-up between the teams. The second came in a shutout loss to UMass and he was lights out the next night. That's when he made his mea culpa, taking the blame for the team's rocky start. He's been significantly better since then, with plays like this (watch the whole thing):

For those who’s seen a lot of Cole. Does he have the same pace as his brother? What makes Lane so good in the NHL is he’s like a dog on a bone. Never give up on a puck battle and he’s relentless.

If Cole has that attribute as well, he’s going to be a superstar in the NHL.

This tweet is utter horseshit, but I'm just posting it for the video.

I don’t know if I’ll come off as a hater for saying this, but I feel Leonard will end up like the 3rd or 4th best forward on the Caps and Hutson will end up the 3rd or 4th best player.

I kind of get the point. Obviously draft position factors in. It’s going to get Leonard more attention naturally.

Leonard is probably a player who has decent upside but is more of a higher floor with great intangibles that’ll have a lot of playoff value and Hutson is the “he could become a superstar in the league” type. But maybe I’ll be wrong.
