Confirmed with Link: Lavi and Housley fired

Lived in Philly. Laughable statement.

LAUGHABLE.

Boston and Chicago are fine for a quick visit, I guess. I am in those cities frequently. Not really sure how they can offer the same level of amenities, though. On the arts side alone, NYC laps the other two cities combined, frankly.
ehh - nothing compares to NYC but for an NHL player, Chicago is going to offer nearly all the same big city amenities. What are you defining as “arts” because Chicago also has a lot to offer in that department

I don't think he was hired to be a difference maker. I've written this in a few threads -- I have to give Drury credit, he was not looking for a magical wizard to be behind the bench, these short term "spark hires" were done to shock the room into cranking out wins. He saw that the team had a certain mojo that was only responding to short term changes, so he worked with it as much as he could. Again, to the organizations credit It worked, those 2 coaches got them to 2 ECFs in 4 years. How many teams would fire their coach just to go to an Eastern conference final? Lots of them.

Even if Drury "knew" that the root issue was a personnel issue, you can't tear down the team while it's competing -- you wanna talk about bad topics and no plan? The type of "rebuild" that people are unknowingly clamoring for (blowing it up last year) would likely result in a team even further disjointed than the one we just watched this season.

However, now we have a clear sample size that confirms that 2 coaches in 4 years have produced identical results -- a positive freshman year, a down sophomore year, followed by a firing, rinse and repeat.

Maybe 15% of this teams downfall is on the GM, he's never going to be fault-less, but be assured that the root problem IS the player core. It was reported 6 months ago that it was clear and known that several players had quit on the organization. I cannot wait for these cancers to be moved.
You’re giving Drury far too much credit lol. He hired Laviolette because he was a big name so a bit of a safe pick as far as fans/media concerned, players wanted more structure which he thought Lavi would bring, familiarity given team USA connection. thats it

No offense, but you having to ask this question proves my point for me without me even having to comment.

Im not sure you know what a straw man is. Also, while yes maybe NYC has declined in some areas - you cannot compare the life of a professional athlete in NYC to that of a 9-5 office worker. Its just not the same experience at all. Also, most dont live in NYC, their commute to “work” is much different, and a lot live somewhere else in the offseason
A straw man is "NYC has a lot of great restaurants" because "it's always been that way."

Certainly glad to see Lavi and the other coaches go, but this recent news about Panarin doesnt help the team morale and also the vets just arent that impressive anymore. Sadly the team needs so much new blood and I can't see this ship turning around anytime soon.

After Dolan decided to host a MAGA rally last year to support Trump that was a big turn off for me as well, kind of made me feel like I didn't want to go to MSG as much anymore. Didn't want to sit in those seats as much anymore and didn't want to give that douche my money anymore.

Well, Dolan can go f*** off at this point. He's got a shit hockey team and thats what he deserves. Certainly the fans deserve more, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
I wouldn't get too heated remember, MSG held the DNC in 1992 when the only good President in my lifetime accepted the nomination. I know it was pre-Dolan. If he had the opportunity in present day, he'd take it.

If you have a chance to hold an NC for either party as an owner, you take it.

How would restaurants and museums be a straw man? That makes no sense. They are definitely attributes of the city that few cities can match either of, never mind both…
The better question is what does NYC NOT have? Theater, every kind of music venue, opportunity, education, activities, travel hubs, tell me what it does NOT have? Hahahaha. You can day trip to go skiing, snowboarding, surfing. You can go fishing out of here. In fact I can fish and crab 300 feet from my front door. It’s a major sports market. Just about ANYTHING you want, you can find here. I’ll say it again, some cities may match NYC In one or two categories but none can match it in all of them.

And I know plenty of people who have moved away and moved back. My parents in fact, lived on the Carolina coast, then the Florida coast and came back, but I’ve had friends who’ve moved to NOLA, LA, Colorado, NM, the Pacific Northwest, Georgia (Russia), several EU countries, gezus, plenty of places, and moved back.
The music venues are cooked in Manhattan. You gotta go deep in the heart of Brooklyn or Queens to see a show and it's usually a crap venue. The Meadows stinks. TV Eye......it's no St. Vitus. If you have a car you're talking 45 minutes. If it's the subway, good luck. Brooklyn Steel is good, I'lll give you that.

Broadway/Theater is fine once in a blue moon. Astronomical prices for a short show. I can only imagine how much that Keanu Reeves/Alex Winter thing is going to cost on a random Tuesday night.

Education I'll give you that. The universities in the cities are having a lot of safety issues though. I'll leave it at that.

I'll give you the airports as I do like all three, although the Air Tran to LGA would've been great. I won't go into who complained about it.

It doesnt at all. Born and raised in Manhattan, currently live in Chicago. Youre not intimately familiar with everything Chicago has to offer and thats OK.

Drury was bashed often for a letter (that leaked) to other GMs saying Trouba and Kreider were available. My question is what was so bad about the letter? Isn't that his job as GM? If he called instead the call contents could have been leaked as well.
Yeah. Seems like the issue is someone leaked it. Not that the players were mentioned. I’d think players names are often mentioned this way.

I’m not saying anything I mentioned is your cup of tea. Or that YOU have to like it all, but others do.

The venue scene in NYC is ever changing. Places close or move and other places open. TV Eye is a great venue. DIFFERENT than Vitus for sure, great nontheless. I know the Vitus guys are looking to reopen somewhere too. There are some venues in other parts of Brooklyn besides up by Queens. Bell House, Lucky 13, etc. Staten Island even has Mother Pug’s Saloon and Maker Park in the summer.
Manhattan still has a ton of venues of all types as well. From Otto’s Shrunken Head (I’m supposed to play there in July) or the Mercury Lounge or Bowery Electric , to Pier 17 or the Garden (I dont normally like arena shows personally but some do); small dives to huge venues. Bowery Ballroom is still one of the best venues around. You can go on concert cruises too.
I’m in SI, so I can also be at a show in Asbury Park (my avatar is me and Lee Ving from FEAR in Asbury a few years ago), New Brunswick, Jersey City or at Crossroads in Garwood in less than an hour.. If you haven’t checked out Crossroads you should. Excellent venue. Not in NYC obviously but easily accessible from here.

I’m not saying it’s a perfect city. Certainly has its issues. Financially crippling to live in sometimes, traffic is traumatizing, our public transport is both a blessing and a curse. Hahaha.
But it’s undeniably a destination that is in very high demand.
Personally I’ll never move more than an hour or two from this city.

Maybe we’ll end up at a show together if Vitus ever gets back. Have a good one bud!

One of the most foolish things I have ever read on this site. A site I've been reading since 2002. Congrats. If politics are getting in the way of your fandom, you're doing something wrong. Politics should have zero impact on your friends, family, or sporting interests. This mentality is a straight up infection.

Hold on, so Dolan can throw a pro Trump rally, and you object to me thinking Dolan is a douche and not wanting to sit in those seats? Wow, so sorrry to have upset you. I'll still be a fan of the team just not giving Dolan the slimeball any of my money. Its a free country, ya know.

Tonight, I'll be heading to watch the Phillies and Mets play live at Citifield. Love the Mets owner. A Democrat self made billionaire who I can feel pretty good about being a supporter of his team! Plus they play with heart, something the Rangers seemed to lack this year.

Haha, one of the most foolish things you've read. I'm dyin here. You gave me a good laugh so thank you! Kupo, mafia mount up! Too funny.

Politics & Sports don't mix. Again, if you're letting Politics interfere with your fandom, then I question your motives. I attend Rangers games because I'm a passionate fan. I don't care if I'm sitting next to a Liberal or Conservative. I don't care what they are. All I care about is rooting for the team, regardless of their political affiliation.

Well, that's fine. But if politics and sports don't mix why is Dolan using MSG, the Rangers and Knicks sports arena to throw a political rally? So that's okay for him to do? But its not okay for me to react to it? I'm at this point officially not a passionate Rangers fan anyway. They're a bunch of sissies like their owner. Igor, best goalie in the world (not!) gotta get that 11.5, Laf such a great player til he gets that juicy contract now sucks a bag of dicks, Mika afraid of his own shadow. So many half hearted losers on this team. Then after an all important loss tune in for the post game Cadillac infomercial. Watch Adam Fox drive that sweet Caddy oh thats a riot. If they gave me a team worthy of passion and an owner thats not the winner of biggest asshole in the world maybe then we'd have a case. Hey, anyway you gave me a good laugh so I appreciate you! Cheers!!
