Laval Rocket: 2024-25 Laval Rocket Thread

Do you think it might be worth calling him up to give him a shot with Laine and Newhook? Or just let him produce in Laval?
He's the guy who deserves it the most...but I absolutely do not see how he'll be able to survive the NHL with the speed and especialy the size and the strength he has...or hasn't in that case. In a playoff mode, there's just on way the kid plays...

Time to say it.....I'm insanely shocked to see how Farrell is doing in the AHL. Never thought he had that in him.
What is he doing that is surprising you? I get that he's putting up points, but beyond that?

I haven't been following Laval much this year.

Well...frankly....putting up points is one important thing. Kid is small, and strength is so behind that he could have been easily exposed in a tougher league like the AHL. And he was at first. And then somehow...figured it out. Not everybody can. But he also drives the play A LOT on his line. He takes action. He's assertive. He really surprising me.

Now, while I say all that and on effort and who deserve it, he should be called up.....way more than Roy.....there's no way I see him as a real NHL prospect. Frankly, I hope they do it a few games when we are going to be out of it if we are...but other than that, there's no world where he plays more than Pezzetta in he is called up. Nobody in Laval would anyway. Reason why I wanted some help.

Thanks.

I'm definitely down to see him getting called up, and hopefully while we're still fighting. Not looking to good for Roy, but last game was one of the few games where that line actually had offensive pressure.

Farrell may never become a regular NHL player, but he consistently demonstrated a knack for adapting (and thriving) at the levels he played in previously. Smart kid who seems to figure how to overcome. After all, he graduated from Harvard in 3 years (normally takes 4 years)!

This is why sometimes boxscore stat watching isn't always the best way to judge a player. Farrell didn't play bad in the beginning of the year, but he was snake bitten to the nth degree.

Not surprised his production is coming fast and furious.. likely earned himself some NHL games if Roy can't find his rhythm.

I watched all of the games to start the season and to put it quite simply most nights Sean Farrell was bad. For me he looked small slow and disinterested. It got to the point I was wondering if he was happy here. We have been provided with player break downs and highlights after almost every game and very few if any were flattering.

I guess with the AHL deadline passing on the day the site was down, the Rocket didn't make any moves? Any improvements/reinforcements will come internally?

They signed Kevin Dineen's son to a PTO. 6'2 C who was Yale's captain this year. Good on faceoffs and zone entry/exit. Mostly a depth moves, but may get into some games this year.

The "big one" is Kapanen who will come back to NA when the SHL POs are done. The earliest his team could get eliminated would be March 27th.

Other guys could come but don't currently have a contract: Rohrer, Harris, Thorpe and Fowler. For all of them, it depends on when they get eliminated and if the Habs want them to turn (NA) pro next year.

For Thorpe, he could come on an ATO and go back to Vancouver next year.

agreed that boxscore stat watching is not the best way to judge a player. Remember in the 2nd half of last season when he returned from the long injury and Roy was no longer there, the offense struggled badly and posters were crapping on Farrell but the ones of us watching at least some kept saying he was often the best player for us or at least one of the few creating things consistently despite being late to get moved up to PP1 if I recall correctly.

The kid has shown high skill and IQ everywhere but of course he's limited by lack of physical tools of height, mass, strength, and his skating/speed have been issues in the past. I have said all year you could see that he at least to me looks a decent amount quicker out there but is still lacking mass and strength in a major way as he is very easy to push off pucks or to contain but he's skilled, smart and works hard so it makes him interesting for sure.

I didn't know much on Vincent before the season started other then what i heard and it wasn't great, I put more stock into an AHL HC's job to develop the prospects over say winning (I know winning is important as is playoff experience) but I'll take a good development path over winning if need be as the two can go hand and hand) The development we have seen from Xhekaj and Farrell this year is impressive despite not being overly thrilled with how they were handled early on but more minor concerns.

Laval is a funny team as it's safe to say that at least in the NHL it's hard to be a top team if your PP sucks. Then you add that they lead the league in pims and you think we'll it's their impressive physical game that has them playing so well, and the PK would often need to step up to cover for that but Laval's PK hasn't been that much better then the PP which has struggled most of the year. They are like opposite of last year where the defensive and early on goaltending was terrible but the offense lead the way. This year the goaltending has been the backbone with very impressive defensive structure but they often struggle at times offensively to create much. When you don't have the PP to lean on that doesn't help matters, yet they continue to find ways to win games. Hard working team that doesn't give up, we'll see if the special teams play hurts their chances to win the calder cup in June.
