This event features players from the 2020 draft class (oldest eligible player being born on Jan 1, 2002)
Will be a big challenge for Shane Wright to make the team, but hopefully he gets a prominent role for Team Canada after he plays two thirds of his first OHL season.
Are you sure about this? I mean, it is said here the tournament is going to be for 2004 and 2005 kids and girls.
YOG said:The young athletes must be 15, 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 December in the year of the Games. The age groups for the events in which they compete are defined in collaboration with the International Sports Federations (IFs) concerned.
For the 2020 edition of the YOG, the following athletes are eligible to participate: athletes born between 1 January 2002 and 31 December 2005.
That will be fun then. We have some really good 04s in the USA age group right now assuming they all play. Can't really speak to the other countries but obviously would assume Canada's Matt Savoie etc are in the mixHockey will be 04's and 05's, other sports may have other ages.
This is from the YOG website.
The age groups depend on the sports and disciplines in which the athletes compete. The athletes must be 15, 16, 17 o r 18 years old on 31 December in the year of the Games (between 1 st of January 2000 and 31 st of December 2003 for Buenos Aires 2018) . These groups are defined in collaboration with the relevant IF responsible for the sport . For example, in Buenos Aires 2018 , the age group defined for Rugby Sevens is the athletes born between the 1 st January 2000 and the 31 st December 2001 (those who are 17 or 18 years old).

Their website is pretty bad, but it seems like there will be 4 years thrown together (15-18 year olds). Their "factsheet" (hockey on p.5):

The girls competition is U18 I believe, while the boys tournament is U16, meaning players born in 2004-2005 are eligible to play. Also Shane Wright will probably stay up in the OHL due to his ES, but Savoie and Bedard playing together should be an absolute treat.
Shane Wright will more than likely stay in the OHL. Same thing happened with Veleno as he was eligible to play for Canada at the 2016 tournament but the Seadogs kept him with the club. Wright could very well end up playing, but I highly doubt it.Thank you for the correction. Like I mentioned above, the YOG website is quite poor and needs some cleaning up.
With 2004 being the cutoff, Savoie will be the oldest player eligible for this tournament, and should absolutely tear it up. Wright will be one of the oldest players there himself, and would be a strong bet for MVP, if he opts to go.
Meanwhile Brad Lambert will actually be too old to play in this tournament.

Well, 6-1 vs Latvia, 7-0 vs Slovakia and 6-0 vs Belarus, and all of those teams were older, than Team Russia. I guess, they will meet a much tougher competitions at the Olympics.
when will canada and us announce their roster for these games..should be quite interesting
If I'm not mistaken Canada generally sends at least one player from all of the various hockey associations across the country. Not a bad way to go.

Has anyone seen if the roster has been released yet for Team Canada Youth Olympics?
