Rumor: Laughton trade talks heating up

More I think about over the last couple days, more I like him. But that’s only if no true 2C is available or cost way too much or as Chevy says are poor fits. No interest in Risto.

Also need to upgrade 3LHD.
If we added Laughton, our centre depth here, while lacking a game breaking 1/2 punch, is probably amongst the deepest of the playoff bound teams. And there's certainly something to be said of quality depth vs top loaded talent (I'm lookin at you, 20/21 covid bubble Oilers)

Chevy should ldefinitely ook at calling anaheim to get Dumoulin to upgrade our 3LD, and while there inquire if Trouba would entertain returning to the Peg for a cup run. You could even pair them together so as to not mess up the chemistry of our top-4. This D group here would do damage in the post season. (just let me dream about this happening...)

Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi
Ehlers-Namesnitkov-Perfetti
Nino-Lowry-Lambert
Kupari-Laughton-Iafallo

Morrissey-DeMelo
Samberg-Pionk
Dumoulin-Trouba

Just want to point out Laughton has been the 5th center on the 27th ranked Flyers this season.

Couturier, Frost, Cates and Poehling were all used at center ahead of him. Laughton is easily the worst defensive player of those five at ES, although he can score a bunch short handed.

Ristolainen's numbers improved when he went to Philly and is no longer the defensive blackhole he once was. He would be a huge improvement on Stanley.

Morrissey - Demelo
Samberg - Pionk
Heniola - Ristolainen
Miller

Looks pretty good to me.

Agree. I've long thought Winnipeg was a good destination.

Ristolainen has long been rumoured to be coming to Winnipeg. I'm not sure what the Flyers needs are, but I'm assuming the Jets would be sending one of Heniola/Stanley back. Probably a draft pick as well.

Stanley makes more sense in a trade from a Jets perspective because they seem to want to pair a defensive defenseman with a puckmover on every line. So a Stanley/Ristolainen pairing wouldn't really match what they do. Heniola-Ristolainen or Miller-Ristolainen works

Our primary need isn't coming back in a Risto trade, unless we get luckier with a draft pick than we have any right to. We desperately need to fix our center depth, which if we trade Laughton is Couturier-Cates-Poehling-¯\_(ツ)_/¯, with Luchanko the only meaningful prospect known to play C. We need Cs up and down the lineup, but our desperate need is a 1C, and that's almost certainly only coming to us if we get very, very lucky in the draft.

That said, defensive depth isn't a bad thing to have, either, the only thing we really don't need is RW.

The Jets generally don't trade their first round picks (Lambert, Yager) after they are drafted unless they want out. I don't think either of those guys listed will be first line centres. Probably 2-3rd line centres.

They do trade picks though before the draft. So maybe that's it.

🤮

Laughton is not the C the Jets should target
Risto is not a fit or need in WPG
