Rumor: Laughton trade talks heating up

I don’t think he’s been good. There’s the line. I think he’s been shit on a stick.

He hasn't been as abysmal as he was in the past. He has been a slight positive for the Flyers.

That said, I think his value probably isn't as high around the league as the Flyers think it is/want it to be. And I think that's because Tortorella coaches remedial, low-event hockey that emphasizes predictability and shelters dumb players.

Risto is a dumb player. He makes a lot of bad decisions with and without the puck. Within the confines of the Flyers' low-event gameplan, he can be effective, but good teams (you know, the ones that spend premium assets to add good players) don't play that type of hockey. I think if you put Risto on, say, the Avalanche? He turns right back into a pumpkin. And good teams know that.

Some Buffalo fans on the board, were trying to foist Risto, on the Jets, for quite a while
Today? Still not interested....

I can understand Toronto, prefers Schenn. Laughton would be cheaper. No retain by Philly.
I would like Minten or a first in 26.

I think the Leafs hold strong on a 2nd + lower prospect.

I might be biggest Leaf fan who wants Laughton. Most of the fanbase wants simething bigger and more shiny. With that said, if we are doing a first or Minten - the offensive upside needs to be higher.

Also, I truly hope that if they acquire Laughton, they put Nylander in his right side. Run 3 lines that can score.

Minten will be Laughton in 2 years.

In all seriousness, he should have been moved 2 years ago when his value was highest. We still might get lucky and get a good return for him though

Oh I'm furious just thinking about how we wasted keeping him for 2 years when we *all* wanted to trade him at his highest value.

I hate the Flyers.

This seems like a much better fit, or maybe need for the leafs.

That being said if the Jets are interested, it would be a depth add. I personally think Namestnikov is a better option at 2c. We are one injury away from being in a bad spot down the middle. I could see Laughton centering our fourth line. Maybe the third checking line if we roll with Lowry as 2c.

For those saying Laughton will garner a first and minten ie high level prospect, for context jets got toffoli, a 26 goal scorer before the trade, for a third that year and a 2nd the next. Laughton has less value IMO.

We got Monahan for just a first, and that was a debatable overpay. Monahan has so much more value I’ve Scott.

I’m not trying to devalue or make light of phillys players - but Laughton is NOT worth a first, let alone a first AnD a quality prospect. I’d reset expectations flyer fans.

They may be trying to package him with risky to get a first plus.

I bet its Risto+Laughton with some retention for 1st+(picks, not sure if its going to be a 2nd or multiple later picks)+Minten+1 of Kampf/Domi/Jarnkrok/Robertson

Has Laughton been playing center for the most part this year? I know in the past there’s been a lot of talk about how he’s more effective as a winger even though he does get slotted in at center a lot. At wing, freed from center duties, he can focus more on being an energetic, physical wreaking ball with just enough scoring ability to move up and down the line-up.

As a center, it’s hard to project him as anything more than a straight 3C on a good team. But frankly, he’s a guy whose versatility as an effective, gritty, complimentary winger might actually be where you get some added juice.

Yeah. A lot of people calling him a "Bottom-6 Forward" are kind of missing this little factor. I think probably the biggest value with Laughton is still that he can play 3C and is one of a small handful of even part-time Centers available. But there's also value added in the fact that he can slot in as a Top-6 complementary Winger as well, or as a gritty Bottom-6 Winger, either Special Teams to some extent. He can effectively play some semblance of "anywhere in the lineup" as needed, which is valuable in a deep playoff run. Gives you that injury insurance in a guy who can play up and down the lineup at multiple positions and roles, as well as just flexibility to move around and change things up if something else isn't working. And does it in a way that adds some grit to whatever line or role needs it.

I'd say he's like a "Swiss Army Knife", but it feels more apt to call him a "Leatherman Tool" or something. Flexible multifunction like that, but more rugged and purposeful. Still not as good at any particular role as a purpose built standalone tool...but less flimsy than the sea of Swiss Army Knife softer "Tweener" fillers that also aren't really skilled enough for the Top-6, but also largely out of place and soft for a Bottom-6 role. At least if you have to bump Laughton up to the Top-6, he'll bring a little robust spice to go with his mediocre complementary offensive skillset. Teams will pay a premium for that when they're looking to grit up for a playoff run.

He has been. He plays within himself and makes the simple high-percentage play and outlet at a high rate. He is not often the cause of defensive miscues.

The only thing that even stands a chance to overshadow the SuperBowl in Canada is a blockbuster Leafs trade lol
