Scooter Lootin available, he might be worth more towards a deadline.
Because?? 3 yrs 3 mil.

For the record Friedman didnt say Briere was working the phones night and day and « shopping » him.

i dont think he leaves, return would not be worth it.

He would return much more at the deadline as the prototypical jack-of-all-trades type sandpaper player. Wouldn’t be surprised if he returned a 1st or even more at the deadline. I think he’s worth more then so probably not worth trading now unless someone gives an offer that can’t be refused

Why would he be worth more at the deadline?

He's still signed for 3 more years so retention won't be a factor. He's not making big money by any means but he's also not on some $1M deal either.

His value basically wouldn't change at all, except for the fact that in the summer all teams can fit him under the cap much more easily so you might end up with more bidders.

Point of the team who needs a sandpaper player and willing to pay a 1st to wait at the tdl? You just make it top 10 protected and get sandpaper now…

1st or prospects or a younger player.

Teams generally seem to pay more at the deadline for those types of players

Friedman didn't just say that Laughton "might be out there," he said lots of teams are calling about him.

Oh i thought it was only Friedman‘s thinking out loud. Thats different.

Yeah you are saying this in many different ways.
But offering no explanation…
I’m just giving my opinion. It’s clear we disagree so probably best to move on

Most of the teams that would want him are going to be fairly tight to the cap. Wait until the deadline, and you can get him at a functionally reduced cap hit for this coming half-season, and you have next offseason to help cut down the roster to retain him. You also have a half-season's worth of evidence that your team isn't going to crumble due to injuries, so you aren't giving up a lottery-level pick for him (and from the Flyers' perspective, they can be more confident that they'll actually get the pick in the year they expect to get it, rather than having to deal with protection and the like.)

That said, I wouldn't see a problem with someone going for him now, it's just that he seems like the kind of guy teams look at as the piece to get them over the top, and that type of guy tends to go at the deadline, rather than the more significant restructuring trades teams prefer to do during the offseason.

No you might be 100% correct. but looks like the rationale is a secret…

here to learn
I’m just saying I think a Laughton-esque player would return more at the deadline than the offseason. Nothing more or less than giving my opinion

They pay a lot for those guys who are making like ~$1-1.5M at the deadline because of the limited cap space. Guys like Hagel, Lafferty, Goodrow, over the last few years.

But Laughton at $3M doesn't really fit that bill. I dont think his value would change at all tbh.

I would agree. He also wont be a pending UFA at the deadline which can be attractive to teams who dont want a long term deal added. Laughtons value should be relatively the same in the offseason.
