I could see Laughton working alright for Edmonton, but at the same time...he's kind of like another different flavour of Henrique. Which is...fine...i guess. But he's just another one of those "solid Top-9 utility piece" guys who can fill pretty much any role pretty capably, but can't actually anchor down anything either.

He's got some grit to him and i wouldn't exactly call him a "smaller player". He's useful on the PK and he really can be that guy who realistically plugs in to any spot C or W on any line and sorta keeps the machine running. He's going to be a very coveted deadline piece because of that, and he should be. But for Edmonton...i'm just not really sure where he fits. He's not very fast or dynamic in any way. That seems like the wrong answer to the problem their roster has. They more so, need somebody to give their Bottom-6 some kind of an "identity".

Deslauriers is, and I need you to hear this clearly, the worst player in the NHL. He moves like a beer leaguer and contributes nothing. He isn't even fast enough to hit his target 90% of the time. He is not good enough to play NHL minutes, which is why he gets about 6 a night when he gets into a game. Having Nic Deslauriers in your lineup is choosing to make your team worse for no real reason.

He can skate, and I say this while not even knowing who he was just 3 or 4 games ago. He forechecks good, he hits and he fights. His scoring abilities... yeah, aren't great to put it mildly.

You guys have talked me out of Deslauriers.

Hathaway and Laughton should still be targets. I want the Oilers PK to improve and for their team to be harder to play against.

Of course, top assets have to go to improving defense. Doesn't sound like Drysdale is doing too well, but the Oilers definitely need an upgrade on the right side.

Only problem is the Flyers do not want to trade them.

Yeah, but the longer the Flyers continue to swirl around the bottom of the league, the more likely a trade could happen. Those two aren't unreasonable targets.

No one is asking for Sanheim here.

Edit: What would be the ask for Drysdale?

I like the idea of adding Laughton. I'd like Hathaway also. Problem is he's got 2 more seasons on his deal @2.4m If the Flyers retained maybe a deal could be done.

They are a bad team and horribly run. Both should be moved 100%. Flyers view them as semi core players.

Sanheim would be a perfect fit. Good 2nd pair guy can help a lot of teams. Same scenario. They won't move him.

As far as JD, no idea. He looks lost and not playing well. So, I think he stays unless some team made an offer no one expects.

They did move Sanheim a not this past offseason but the one before. The issue is Krugs NTC. It’s not exactly easy to move bigger contracts right now. Everyone’s up on the cap that would be interested in adding a guy in that mold without it being a swap of a similar situation.

Edmonton can’t fit a cap hit like that into their long term plans right now. Vegas doesn’t need to, Florida can’t, Toronto should, but they desperately need RD not LD, Carolina’s defense is loaded, Colorado can’t fit it. The issue is the teams that would be fine with eating the potential bad back half of the contract while missing out on the few key years are kind of stuck with having to move out a core piece to do it or being littered with trade protection.

He's #44, in case you want to talk about the same guy I was.

Deslauriers is a complete bum, shouldn't be in the NHL, what-so-ever. Laughton is a nice swiss army knife type player, could help any team really contending for a cup imo. Not sure if he'll get a 1st, but GM's overpay when they think they can really win, so wouldn't be suprising. The Flyers should have their entire roster up for sale, minus Michkov.
