Confirmed with Link: Laughton 50 Retention A 4th and A 6th to the Leafs for A Conditional 2027 1st Round Pick and Nikita Grebenkin

A 1st round pick is still an asset and now you don't have one till 2028? You gotta use those kinds assets more wisely. We'll see, maybe Laughton will prove his value in the playoffs, when we actually need it.

I mean if he doesn’t work out here, you can recoup some assets.

Even if it’s a 2nd the. We made a move. Way better than 1-3 for like 15 games of foligno

He was pushed to the wing in favor of Ryan Poehling
Temporarily. There could be plenty of reasons for that. I’m not an expert on the guy and it hasn’t gone well, but I was always under the impression he as a c for years. If that is true I don’t think 20 games changes that.

Heck maybe they were trying out C to see if they can move him.

16 shifts for 11:13 tonight. 37% in the dot on 8 draws. Was late to the shooter on the PP goal.

Have to hope he figures something out. He's very close to being a scratch for Kampf based on tonight's numbers..A reset might not be bad but also massive egg on face.

The problem is Brad gave up a 1st and Grebenkin for Laughton and not something like a 2nd and a 4th or a OK prospect for him. He overpaid for a decent at best 3C who as you said isn't going to move the needle much either defensively or offensively.
He actually got a 4th and a 6th. So he was listening to your wants

I hadn’t really thought of it that way, but I think Laughton will work out here. That said, there’s a scenario where he doesn’t — and maybe we flip him for a 2nd, or even a 1st if we’re the ones retaining. Philly’s already eating half, so if the real cost of adding him for this playoff run is trading down from a late 1st to an early or mid 2nd, that’s pretty solid business. Then it just comes down to what Grebenkin turns into, of course.

Exactly.

Not sure about you, but I’m much more interested in the Leafs having players who can play at the NHL level instead of try-hard minor leaguers.
I follow the Leafs first and foremost. I watch a lot of hockey, but when it is not NHL, it is Leaf prospects and not traded ones.

As always, very insightful.

Laughton has 10 points in 24 playoff games while shooting 2x his regular shooting %...
Perfect

I'd throw him on the second line for a couple games, Berube obviously isn't settled there. Get him going.
Yeah I'm wondering about this one. If the fourth line is a demotion, does he not want to be here, late for practice?

The organization brought him here for a purpose and Berube is supposed to execute that plan.

Maybe the fourth line is his preferred way to ease him in and get him going? I dunno, but I'm skeptical for now with Berube when it comes to personnel.

His job is to to make the players work. Especially pricey tdl acquisitions, whom we inherently acquired because we felt we needed them to come here, and work, to win.

Just some thoughts, it probably won't happen for this game, but apparently Laughton is a more natural winger. I don't see Holmberg on the 2nd line for playoffs so for me, I'd like to try Laughton on the wing on Second line and have Holmberg on the 4th.

This appears a more optimum approach. Laughton had 11 goals I believe before he came over so he can score a little more than Holmberg can (as long as Laughton can be defensively responsible as well). I am going to repeat this suggestion again in the future I'm sure.

How many of those 11 goals were empty netters? No way he scored 11 real goals.

Maybe he wants Laughton on a checcin line which would make sense if he’s defensively sound he just doesn’t really seem like a natural center to me better defensively then domi but domis just a better player

I mean I guess they are probably putting him as 4c to get caught up to Berubes system as a C.

IF they want to keep domi as 3C.

Knies. Matthews. Marner
Laughton Tavares. Willy
Mcmann. Domi. Robby/max/jarny
Lorentz. Kampf. One of those.

I forget. Have we tried

Mcmann. Laughton. Jarnkrok?

Would that not make sense? I guess where do you put domi?

I never really wanted Laughton. But at 1.5 million for 2 years and his league wide value it’s not terrible

Do you think we could get a couple seconds for him at the end of the season?

Maybe?

Or a 2nd and a 3rd or something in the off season. I’m not writing the guy off after 5 games. He isn’t an already back injured foligno.

Statistically if the pick is past 20 it’s a crap shoot anyway, but we may keep him.

Lots of teams loved him. He didn’t just suck now.

I didn’t really want him. But I am glad we got Carlo. If he’s a winger not sure what he brings that Jarnkrok doesn’t other than a fight or 2

Lets just be patient with Laughts here. I know its not the results we want to see early on, but we have to remind ourselves that this is a high pressure spot for him. He's just been traded to his hometown club for a big price tag and he's not exactly being thrown into situations where he is primed to put up points. And like it or not, that is how a player will start to feel good about himself.

I genuinely think he's gunna turn a corner for us soon.

Not much time, but he's been bad, hopefully he turns it around.

The red flag that concerns me is after a good career as a 3C, sometimes 2C on bad Flyers teams he started to struggle and then was moved to the wing where his play rebounded.

If he's not good enough anymore to be a centre on a bad team who's C depth looks like: The husk of Sean Couturier, Noah Cates, Ryan Poehling, ??? that's concerning.

Your Pro scouts better know what their doing if you're slotting him into the 3C hole on a playoff team.
