Confirmed with Link: Laughton 50 Retention A 4th and A 6th to the Leafs for A Conditional 2027 1st Round Pick and Nikita Grebenkin

This guy has got to turn it around. I haven’t been impressed with him 1 bit.

I haven’t seen a Leaf look as bad as he has in their first handful of games here.

We haven't found the right fit nor the right line-mates yet and chemistry takes time.

Who knows next year we might have Knies --- Laughton --- Nylander 2nd line.

He hasn't had a lot of opportunity yet to find his footing and his place on the Leafs yet.
Laughton isn’t even a good 3c, I’d bet all my money on him not being on the 2nd line at all.

Leave it to the usual Leaf Bridge Jumpers to bemoan the loss of a no-talent scrub like Grebenken and mid to late 20’s draft pick who’s not even going to sniff the NHL for at least four years.

Having a chippy, defensively reliable, competent penalty killer who can be a good #3C or a great #4C at the cost of $1.5M is WAY more valuable than a career minor leaguer and the second coming of Fred Gauthier or Ty Biggs.

Laughton? Barely a 4C, maybe a 4th line winger

Yeah he kinda sucks. Early viewings is an L trade for Treliving. He's gonna have to do something in the playoffs to salvage this.

I think it might make sense to lay off the centre idea and try wing for a bit.

Laughton-JT-Marner
McMann-Domi-Robertson/Holmberg/Jarnkrok
Lorentz-Kampf-Jarnkrok/Holmberg

Basically Robertson will stay in as long as he scores, if he doesn't, he's gonna go to the press box, then Jarnkrok/Holmberg are on 3rd or 4th line RW respectively.

Philly clearly pumped and dumped him by inserting his name into the trade winds with names he has no business being mentioned with, including B. Schenn.

Looking at this team, I’m scratching my head that they were after Gourde and Pageau as well.

I’d like to see him right this wrong and get back a 1st rounder like Dubas did. Then hes forgiven for this terrible trade

I think we have to put him in a position to succeed and offload him this summer at the earliest for whatever we can get. He’s not worth walking to UFA and I’d rather cut losses on him.

He hasn’t found his way here yet, dude wore an A and has played 600 plus games at a respectable level in this league. Now he’s a scrub who shouldn’t be in the lineup, never change fickle nation. Let the guy adjust, then judge.
I mean I cheer for the fan that steps up and is better then those they put down yet to see it however. Where's our Mr Invincible

Grebenkin had the worst stats on the team (personal and on-ice) until Laughton showed up and somehow put up even worse numbers to date, so...

That’s why you have to actually watch the games instead of just looking at spreadsheets, my friend.
I only missed the Ottawa game recently and have yet to see Laughton make even one noteworthy positive play - maybe a couple of routine clears on the PK - whereas he has made numerous blunders and shown limited energy and hustle. At least Grebenkin was noticeable in moving his feet and throwing a few hits (a couple of which really should have been boarding minors, but he got away with them).

I like it. If they aren't going to use Laughton as 3C, I think he makes more sense as 2LW with J.T. and Marner, at least while 2LW is wide open.

One thing I'd say though is Robertson has comfortably beaten out Holmberg and Jarnkrok for that last top 9 winger role, imo. Jarnkrok just seems so low energy and plays small and slow. Nylander has to scream at Jarnkrok to get engaged. Holmberg is very meh as well. Robertson just has much more drive, he's higher energy, he's faster, he has a better shot, he has a higher goals per game and draws more penalties and creates more chances. He does just about everything better. Robertson is 7th on the team in goals. How many teams can remove there 7th highest goal scorer on the team, and just fill that in? Robertson needs to be in the top 9 everyday imo.

I didn’t have high expectations on the Laughton deal and didn’t want it to happen in the first place. But it feels like he’s giving us Zach Aston-Reese level hockey at the moment.

Agreed. Laughton on the wing is the only move that makes sense. There are years worth of evidence that Laughton isn't a center.

Knies Matthews McMann
Laughton Tavares Marner
Domi Jarnkrok Nylander
Lorentz Kampf Holmberg

For a team that is starved for offence in the playoffs, I don't want to take Robbie out and put the useless Kampf in.

The price of Laughton if you have cap space: a 2nd round pick and a C-level prospect.

Toronto's situation (no cap space): A conditional 1st round pick, and Grebs.

Laughton still has term (1 more season after this), and PHI retains 50%.

Toronto also receives a 4th round pick and 6th round pick.

There is a silver lining there. Please look for it.
