Confirmed with Link: Laughton 50 Retention A 4th and A 6th to the Leafs for A Conditional 2027 1st Round Pick and Nikita Grebenkin

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

Next year we can compare Minten to Laughton for 82 games?

Disappointed Minten is gone, but it will be interesting to see how Laughton plays after he learns the new coaches system and training camp.

I would probably just move him this summer and recoup some assets. Nothing personal or that complicated. Just not really what we need and not a natural fit.

At his Cap Hit, of $1.5mm he's entry level, with experience.

I'd just treat it as sunk cost and work around it.

If you can use him in a trade for a 2nd. line center then certainly you do it if results in retaining other assets.

Now if the team is in rebuild mode, then try and get some picks for a long term. speculative acquisition.

It does piss me off that this guy cost a 1st and Grebenkin. A big selling point from my POV was that he’d be cheaper than other centres on the market. A 1st round pick (protected or otherwise) and Grebenkin who’s likely to appreciate in value is a steep price IMO. Even if he’s at a 50% cap hit.

Unless he really turns it on and becomes a big factor in the postseason this trade will be costly. Unfortunately we couldn’t outbid Colorado for Nelson, couldn’t make it work cap-wise with Coyle, and Armstrong put a high price on Schenn and he didn’t want to waive his NTC anyway. That left Scott and Philly took advantage of the market.

Do we not have pro scouts? Like they thought this guy moved the needle?

A mid sized, snarly center-wing with minimal offense, not from a winning organization, overrated defense, good in the room. No special attributes like speed or size that could change the complexion of a vanilla bottom six.

Couldn't we have just traded the first for Brock Boeser and gotten some surplus scoring punch?

Not a great sign that he’s already been moved to the wing at times. And in his post game comments, mentioned his game got going once moved there. This was something Philly fans warned us about, that he’s not really a centre. Despite this he was marketed as a clear 3C by the team at the deadline.

If he’s a winger who doesn’t score much, isn’t great defensively…that’s not great!

Wasn't many who said they were willing to pay the freight for a Top 6, let alone a top 3 forward.

Should do a re-poll.

Would you be willing to pay what the Leafs paid for 2 players at the deadline for 1 top 3-4 forward?

Knies - Matthews -marner

and
(
McMann - Nelson - Nylander
Robertson - Tavares - Domi

or

Nylander - Tavares - Boeser
Robertson - Domi - McMann

or

McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Robertson - Laughton - Domi
Carlo

)

Keep in mind rental versus another year.

Hah, well I was a stand pat guy and I stand by that assertion. This team doesn't have it and doesn't deserve the reinforcement and investment.

idiotic thread, probably created by someone that never had to tie there own skate laces.

Highest level I played was single A. I only stopped playing competitive hockey because I preferred competitive soccer. I'd wager you have never played sports in your life and you are simply projecting because nobody can look at this dud and have anything nice to say. The only thing idiotic is mortgaging your future for a 30 year old player that topped out as a third liner when those types of acquisitions are a dime a dozen in the off season. Kampf is much more impactful than this "hometown" loser.

I think minten could have stepped up
wow

He and Grebenkin looked great in their stints with the big club. A lot of speed and tenacity. Once again MLSE hasn't a clue nor the patience to give younger prospects a longer look. The idea of internal solutions is not even option for this club. I am convinced that there are many fans that could probably run this organization better than the professional idiots currently in charge. If Philly's GM called me and asked for a First and one of my better prospects for Laughton I would respond with a prolonged laugh and promptly hang up. By comparison, Florida got Marchand for a 2nd rounder.

Last time in the playoffs Laughton, 15 games, 5 goals, 9 points, 25% shooting percentage.

He was 2nd. on team for scoring, first in goals.

Maybe he's better in post-season?

I wish that 1st was conditional of the win 2 RDS variety

No debating he's looked less than impressive. But I'm gonna give the guy more than 3 games on a new team to come to conclusions.

that's impressive

I was more or less all in or all out.

If it wasn't a squad you have confidence of winning anything, they should have sold.

My attitude was basically this team failed to show the right signs of growth throughout the year, there's something majorly wrong with 34 to the point where he's basically caught up to and surpassed Tavares in decline and we don't have the horses to compete.

Stand pat, let the team go as far as it can on its own steam and then retool massively in the offseason.

He us a vet who knows how to play, hit, push, faceoffs, win puck battles. So far nothing that Greybonkin could gave done better.

They can't even beat an injury/suspended riddled Florida team and nothing in the last 8 years has demonstrated they are capable of doing that so yes it is impossible.

This team seems to look at every big game like it’s insurmountable challenge. With the way they came out with the 1-0 lead, the Domi hit and fight they should have road killed Florida just on momentum but somehow get ground and pound into submission.

Honest to goodness just do the hard work and do it well and feel good about yourselves for once. Their culture of do the bare minimum to just squeak by is awful.

Exactly...I'm talking to a friend who's a philly fan and the first thing he told me is you will like him especially in playoff.

Moving in a complete new system you need to learn with teammate you need to know and learn to create kind of chemistry but overreacting and be considerate like trash after 3 game because he doesn't look like a savior.

Welcome inToronto. Toronto didn't pay for laughton to good for next 5-10 game but to make an impact when it will matter

Leafs was coming off a long road trip with player who didn't saw their family/ wife / child a lot. Exemple Matthews/ Marner probably be at home like 2-3 day max last 45 days. It was a pretty challenging schedule for leafs.

Just as exemple, you didn't saw your child a lot for several days, 1st day at home you probably try to have time with them and don't necessairly get a lot of rest. So maybe level of energy would be as high 1st game after long road trip... Hockey player still human at the end.

It's absolute statements like this, that usually end up being proven wrong. One game does not a season make, whether you believe in this team, or not. Teams have good streaks, and bad streaks... the best teams do, and the worst teams.... I mean Florida just lost to Boston, a team who sold off many of the good players, and couldn't even beat them. Does that suggest they won't go anywhere?

Not that I believe in the Leafs that much, but in all seriousness this is sport and it's unpredictable. To get this wound up emotionally seems silly.
