Laughton has been horriawful, no doubt.

What bugs me most, though, is that our undoing in the playoffs always seems to be a lack of offense. That concern is compounded this year with our scoring down overall, including Matthews' goal count dipping significantly and long stretches with no secondary scoring.

Even in a perfect world, Laughton doesn't help address that. Why not target a forward that at least could theoretically chip in with some offensive production?

Crazy work as a gm your job is to analyze that the market succs and the team has too many holes with a player that looks like he’s trying to over charge us or walk this year should have been a punt

2 games and 1 practice, with 2 linemates. I really struggle with what fans know and expect. Zero perspective, just poorly formed hot takes. Rinse and repeat.

It’s like people thought we were getting some 2C centre that we were gonna slot at 3C. He would hide Domi’s defensive issues too. All while scoring at a 30 goal pace and punching faces.

A 2c is what I expected for a 1st and grebenkin. Getting a career 3rd liner was just dumb. And no I’m not expecting him to be any more so the 2 games don’t matter at all.

He's likely worth a second-rounder, with a sweetener added for salary retention, and no Grebenkin.

Mind you, I just like Grebenkin and probably over-value him.

At the TDL, maybe another B-prospect instead. Like . . . . Steeves? Niemela? Kokkonen? Nah. The Leafs don't really have a lot of good prospects thar anybody wants. Cowan, Danford, or bust now that Minten and even Grebenkin are gone. The cupboard is bare.

I wonder if the plan going forward for next season is Laughton is 3LW and Treliving signs a 2C in UFA like Bennett…..

Our roster is always going to be under construction and will never be a totally finished product.

I still don’t think Laughton was worth the price paid, but hoping for the best and the reality is always going to be unless our Core 4 delivers in the playoffs, no one Treliving brought in was going to do it by themselves, including Rants.

Worst case scenario, Laughton is easy to move with his contract and we can recoup a pick or as part of a package.

Hasn’t been good. No doubt. Will wait at least 5 games to condemn this move though. Any player who’s traded needs a bit of time to adjust. His true value will be if he can summon his childhood Leaf heroes traits in time for playoffs.

Doesn’t his career show you his true value? He isn’t getting younger so I don’t expect him to be better.
 
You guys think this trade is bad, wait until Marner walks and he panic signs a bunch of unmoveable monstrosities in free agency in an attempt to not give out multiple top 10 firsts for depth pieces.

Sam Bennett 10 x 7 and Ekblad 10x 7 kind of deals

Marner walks without playoff success and rightfully so. The core would have proven it cannot get it done.

$7m would be in the ballpark for Bennett and Ekblad but you can't sign UFAs for more than 7 years. :sarcasm:

Hopefully Shanny's head will roll quickly in May so that they negotiate better deals. I suspect Shanny is the one pushing for 3 amigos to be signed at all cost. It's we can and we will, 2.0.

Look, I didn't want Laughton from the beginning, he was pretty low on my wish list. That being said, we need to stop having the patience of a gnat. The guy has played two games here, and it could take some time for him to settle in, learn a new system, and new teammates. We likely won't know his impact on our team for another ten games or so.

People seriously need to give their heads a shake here.
