You can rail at Cameron for 20 things but starting Ivankovic is not one.

Canada has not had a 17yr old kid goalie for the past quarter century. And incidentally, the last time they started one (1999) they came home without a medal.

Inexplicable for Cameron to start Ivankovic tonight after Carter George had a dominant shutout in the opening game.

So aside from the many big saves he made as well as 7 of 8 shots in the shoutout, what goals are you pinning on him? Hint... there are none.

Biggest embarrassment in Canadian sports since the Ben Johnson steroid scandal and the Perditia Filicien hurdles fiasco at the Olympics. All involved should be humiliated. All the so called best players in junior hockey produced that effort.? The players and coaches should have to reimburse the fans for their overpriced tickets.

Seems extreme.. Reimburse the 1/3 full building?

HC simply has to stop putting this event in NHL cities. Looked like a round robin game in Fussen between Switzerland and USA. No one there.

Ivankovic is an undersized goalie, so when he’s down in the butterfly it leaves him vulnerable for high shots. Which is exactly what happened on the Latvia goal that tied it 2-2.

On the first Latvia goal, he was overcommitted to the shooter and slow to react to the pass across.

Nah, that's a losers mentality.

Come with the possibility that you might win, not with the expectation that you'll lose. I remember C. Ronaldo called out Iceland at the Euros for the same thing. They celebrated a win in a group stage game and Ronaldo said that's a losers mentality.

What are you going to say, Iceland has accomplished way more than C. Ronaldo ever has? Oh yeah, your personal attacks don't mean much.
"Me and Ronaldo say the same stupid shit."

You win.

We clearly didn't watch the same game. the second goal Ivankovic's only mistake is reacting to the seam pass as though it would be a one time shot but it was a left handed shot and he perfectly teed it up for Bulans to walk into a shot that beat him low blocker. The quality of that puck movement surprised Canada... surprised the hell out of me. Seam, one touch and walk in hammer low to the blocker. Dizzying.

The first one an over commit? Yeah , find me a goaltender that doesn't commit as you can only play one shot at a time.. He's going to play a bit further out given his size but if any goaltender can react to that look off pass and stiff stick one timer.. i'd like to see it. You are grasping at straws .

Nope, it's the personal attacks. Somehow having a different opinion than someone else means you've never accomplished anything in your life. It's increasingly strange when you say it behind a forum without even knowing who the person is.

I don't know why people are so offended by a difference in opinion. Torts and Cherry for example say the same thing, and they work in hockey and both coached teams in the SCF.. but sure, some HfBoard poster is right and every else with a different opinion than him is an utter failure in society or 'never played hockey before', except there's people in the NHL that have said the same thing.

This is sarcasm, right? We’re talking about a bunch of Latvian awkward and gawky teenagers beating Canadian awkward and gawky teenagers. In the big picture, who gives a shit.

Controlled the play but couldn’t finish, not a single ES goal. Sure glad we left some of our most talented players at home - Sennecke, Misa, Cristall, Parekh, Yakemchuk, etc.

Always hate when Team Canada brass go all galaxy brain and try to get the “right” mix of role players and high end talent, and/or focus too much on limited minutes in camp vs. more strongly weighting way higher sample sizes in real CHL games. There’s no salary cap, we can and should field 4 first lines and 3 top pairs. When every line/pair can dominate the puck AND finish, you’re way less likely to get shut down in any given game.

It’s all right here. You play chumps you get a poor result.

Or it could be the equivalent of Saudi Arabia beating Argentina in the 2022 World Cup as a footnote to Team Canada winning the gold? Let this Canadian team decide what path they go on before you get this bent of shape about it lol

I disagree on this one
Based on..?

For the majority of the time during his tenure, he was a HC for Avangard so he simply didn't have time to go far beyond his direct duties. But even if he did, Latvia undoubtedly had an established hockey pyramid with powerful players in it by the time he arrived.

As in most hockey pyramids, powerful players are the ones who have the money or control the means to distribute it. Anyone "on the ground", no matter how big the profile, is really a pretty minor player in the grand scheme of things. Even more so as an outsider, and I mean this not as a foreigner but as a person who arrives from an NA/NHL environment, who can't know or be expected to know particularities and challenges completely different hockey program faces.

It's like Mike Keenan being a poster boy (poster old man?) for building hockey in China or Italy when in reality, all the work is done by people behind the scenes and Keenan coming or going is pretty inconsequential for anything.

Based on all the reports and comments that have come out the years he was here and a few years after.

Surely he didn't turn everything around himself. As you say, it's a systemic work first and foremost. But Hartley was instrumental in shaling the player mindset and spreading this knowledge to other coaches in Latvia. He had a big role, imo

Unless someone is a total jerk, they’re usually gonna say some nice things about them. Everyone will give vague praise about shaping attitudes and what have you.

Hard to imagine a guy doing spot duty coaching iihf world championships would be too heavily involved in re-shaping and building a youth infrastructure that would carry over to a world juniors result.
