Haven’t followed this tourney too closely, but can’t lose to Latvia the way this team did - they have no ‘ice in your veins’ type players. My prediction is no medal for Canada this year yet again.
You say like it's been a long drought. Yeah Canada had no medal last year but has won 3 of the last 4 before that...

Canadian Hockey is all good. This team could have Connor Bedard (2nd best WJC performer of all time), Celebrini (PPG NHL player), Benson (NHL regular),Sennecke, Misa, Yakemchuk & Parekh on it.

So TC could create the two best forward lines in the tournament with eligible players not here...

The only problem with Canadian hockey are the dimwitted dinosaurs who run Hockey Canada. In spite of that we still win more than anyone else.

Ultimately that's probably a good thing for competitive international Hockey.

Because it was overtime/shootout win, if the rest holds serve then that would still make Germany/Latvia a winner take all to get the quarterfinal spot.

I am aware of that, but let's just say that a) I don't like our chances against a team capable of beating Canada in whatever way. And b) after watching our game against Finland, I do believe that Latvia has a very real chance to win their game against them.

Anyway, I just love stories like this.

Man imagine beating freaking Canada and still going to relegation. Brutal.
Hell imagine getting an off-night vs Kazakhstan and actually getting relegated.
That’s what happened with Germany who beat Finland last year. They needed overtime to avoid getting relegated against Norway.

Only watched the OT and shootout but my takeaway is these kids don't seem like the play as a unit. Easton Cowan thinks he's so cute out there going behind the back, and then that shootout attempt... BARF!

Everyone involved in the game from players to coaches should be embarrassed and humiliated from that effort. No excuse for it. A total embarrassment.

The team went 0 for 8 in the shootout. What difference does it make how it looked when not a single Canadian player was able to score in the shootout with another player taking multiple attempts by the way.

Doesn't Canada have peacekeeping troops in Latvia right now? And *this* is how you repay us?? We have the Dutch lighting candles for our troops but Latvia destroying our hockey ego. What a world.

(I kid, congrats, well deserved).

So Dickinson and Bonk play on the same junior team. Dickinson is the much more notable player. Trying to give the coach the benefit of the doubt that he isn’t totally brain dead, what is the logic of why Bonk would play ahead of him on the powerplay? That one is a real head scratcher.

Agree 100% with this.

Dickinson runs the power play for London, not Bonk. Cameron has coached against London enough times that he should clearly know this.

Really with Dale Hunter was coaching Canada.

With Dale coaching in game changes would have been made. Cameron did nothing. A horrible coach. Coaching is more than opening and closing the door on line changes.

Controlled the play but couldn’t finish, not a single ES goal. Sure glad we left some of our most talented players at home - Sennecke, Misa, Cristall, Parekh, Yakemchuk, etc.

Always hate when Team Canada brass go all galaxy brain and try to get the “right” mix of role players and high end talent, and/or focus too much on limited minutes in camp vs. more strongly weighting way higher sample sizes in real CHL games. There’s no salary cap, we can and should field 4 first lines and 3 top pairs. When every line/pair can dominate the puck AND finish, you’re way less likely to get shut down in any given game.

Was at it. Just all perimeter and everyone trying to do it themselves. I think I saw one dump in all game. Once they were clearly in a game they should have just been red line dump forcheck through the boards but everyone just wanted to dangle the line. Was ugly really, shot count doesn’t tell the story at all.

They didn't play out of their minds. Their goalie did.

They were outshot nearly 3:1 and they waited for a PP to even get scoring chances. Luckily they were rewarded with a bunch of them.

I put the blame for this humiliating loss on the coach, not the players. Cameron made so many mistakes and ill advised decisions.

Why was Carter George not in net? I like Ivankovic’s game, but there’s a reason no 17yr old has started in net for Canada in the past THIRTY-EIGHT (38) years.

Any too-many-men on the ice penalty is ALWAYS the coach’s fault, and that one in the final minute of OT was inexcusable.

You can rail at Cameron for 20 things but starting Ivankovic is not one.

Sure could have used Sennecke in that shoot out tonight.

It’s mind boggling how the Canadian brain trust chose Cole Beaudoin and Luca Pinelli ahead of Sennecke.
