These teams show up to do their best and play their hearts and and HOPE for games like this. The skill level between them and the other countries are massive. They know it their fans know it everyone else knows it.
So they show up and do their best and make their countries proud. Expectations are different. So when they win a game like this, it means the world to their fans, their country and the players.
Expectations are wildly different and have been for a long time.
Wins like this can push these countries into stronger hockey countries.
This ain’t like the NHL playoffs where there is crazy parity. Canada is full of players good enough to be drafted. Countries like Latvia have 1 maybe 2.

Nah, that's a losers mentality.

Come with the possibility that you might win, not with the expectation that you'll lose. I remember C. Ronaldo called out Iceland at the Euros for the same thing. They celebrated a win in a group stage game and Ronaldo said that's a losers mentality.

What are you going to say, Iceland has accomplished way more than C. Ronaldo ever has? Oh yeah, your personal attacks don't mean much.

Idk but leaving the OHL's leading scorer and possibly #1 pick in next year's draft off your CAMP invites let alone the ROSTER seems like a bad idea in retrospect when you can't score against Latvia.

or at least 1 of 2 power play specialists on the back end.

Donald just posted.

re: :Latvia beating Canada

"Hey Governor Trudeau, want to borrow a few real hockey players?
Senile man doing senile things.

Huge congrats to Latvia.

The GM pretty much black listed himself from anything if Canada doesn't win.

Oh wait, no he didn't. He'll get tons of opportunities to show how dense he is.

Losers mentality. Should have been fired before he made the comments... but at least he got fired.

I think even Keefe learned from this comments, doubt he says it in NJ now. Toronto media criticized him more than the posters on HF.

As a Canadian I'm not even mad in the slightest.

I wasn't even watching the game, I happened to stop by someones house & it was on when Lativa tied it 2-2. At that point you had to stick around to see the ending. When it got to OT I was kinda cheering for Latvia not gunna lie.

If it was the Olympics that's another story, the country would be in meltdown mode, but in this tournament I don't really care as much how Canada does. Just enjoy the stories & watching Canucks prospects.

Congrats Lativa!

And if Canada wins the tournament, no one will care. They were playing with 5D and haven't allowed an even strength goal all tournament.

If anything, this loss might suggest they can use better PKers.
They also have only 3 ES goals against the worst Finland team in decades and a Latvia with two drafted players total on the roster. The "role" guys they brought in to PK and hold on to a late 1 goal lead did a really shitty job at that and also predictably haven't brought a ton of offense. Definitely not too early to start criticizing or worrying about the rest of the tournament.

Cool for Ronaldo, he was butthurt that he lost
These are kids “losers mentality”. Coming from a guy whose biggest achievement is “I got like 10 likes once on HFBoards”.
It’s delusional to ignore what this means to these kids and try to say “well they should pretend they can win and keep their emotions in check so I don’t have to feel upset”

This is what I hate about North American hockey fans.

This Latvian team has a bunch of top round prospects and the most talented generation in the history of Latvian hockey.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
Clearly you missed an obvious hyperbole. But in all serious, how many future NHLers do you see on Latvia then?

Latvia can be building and making strides in their program and it can still be an abysmal loss for Canada. Both can be true

Winning a game on an international national level is a big deal. And should not be taken for granted…which the losing team certainly did
Isn't Bob Hartley responsible for setting the foundation for Latvian junior hockey? If so, good on him. Wish we had him behind the bench in MTL helping out MSL.

And you know it's bad when you're making stuff up to argue a point. Let it go, we disagree.

You can criticize them, sure, but people saying they can't medal or they choose the wrong team because of an SO loss is quite dramatic. They may still win the group and it becomes irrelevant.

As I posted on the oiler board and the Euros on this board will agree. Every time ANY National team in any hockey tournament plays Canada? That is their game 7 cup overtime game. The players know all eyes will be on this game, scouts, coaches and GMS will be watching any game Canada is in. It just takes one play for a previously unknown player to suddenly be on the radar of one or two NHL teams. Only 2 of the Latvians players have been drafted already, well a few players suddenly got noticed tonight.
