Latvia are the clear favorites in this match up, but it's going to be interesting to see if Austria can carry some of the momentum over from the last game and keep the score close.

Team Latvia is going to come out pretty angry and very eager to finally score some goals. Even though Latvians are not going to stray too far away from their defensive hockey, at the junior level players usually tend to get carried away after finally having more space and more breathing room against a slower and less skilled opposition.

And some of our NHL prospects really should finally step up. Veinbergs with 0 points and a -7 (with only 10 goals conceded at ES), Vilmanis with 0 points and a -4.

Ok, so Latvians chose chaos. This is going to be a toss-up. Kudos to Austrians - their deep forecheck paid off.

What I feared the most is happening: when you don't score for 120+ minutes it's not that easy to just go out there and "light them up". I'm still fairly confident Latvia is going to win but man this is going to be tough.

Too bad the game is not streamed. Would like to check if Latvia got other tools besides creating a mess down low and shooting from the blue line in hopes that the puck gets in somehow...

That’s terrible news for their chances - no one else on that blue line can complete an Outlet pass to save their life.

Latvia will wipe the floor with them.
Reinbacher has been such a standout for Austria. I was impressed with him against Canada. Albeit outmatched as a team he was CONSTANTLY involved in the Offence

A shitty period, yet we somehow managed to tie the game.

Well shots are 24-12 like one would expect at this point but the game is a struggle, also like one could have seen coming ever since Austrians scored first.

I predicted 4-3 games and not blowouts.. 2-2 but I'm not watching so can't speak to the game.

Limited Austria to 5 shots, good period in my book... That's how Latvia has to win games, can't play run-and-gun hockey after grinding it out 6 games straight before.

If Latvia concedes 3 goals it's a bad game by default, against anyone, even more so against the Austrians. Hopefully, that is never going to happen.

Basically, those were two even teams in the first, Latvian started to take over in the second and in the third, it all just unraveled for the Austrians... They were put under massive pressure (shots in the 3rd 19-0 at the moment) and it all just unraveled for them.

Austrians with a well-known IIHF tounrnament classic that many have seen me mention before - getting a 5-minute penalty when your team needs you the most.

At the end of the game, the shot clock 46-13 Latvia. Not sure how the Austrians are supposed to have the strength to put up a fight in another game. They definitely came out with the best effort today but as a wise man said, "in the end, it didn't really matter".

Good for Latvia, they were clearly the better team over the group stage - looked competitive against the US. Would be a shame if they were relegated. Austria would not be competitive next year either likely.
