Our centre depth is pretty great. Stützle, Norris, Pinto and Ostapchuk have all become really good 200 ft players. + Greig for good measure.
This team has only really played like 15% of their games in the past couple years with a healthy centre core. When they're healthy they're a completely different team and actually look dangerous. Add competent goaltending to the mix and you have a probable playoff team.

Those might not have been high danger shots - particularly in the first, but y'all know those are going in last year.
I don't know that we've ever had a goalie that gave me less confidence than last year's Korpisalo. Between him and Forsberg, it felt like everything had a chance to go in. Can't imagine trying to play in front of that.

They locked it down. That's all that matters.

Playing for easy cookies is exactly what's been been killing us this past half-decade. How many blocked shots, killed chances, quality saves were there in the last 5 minutes with the empty net? Don't give a shit about empty netter freebies- LOCK.IT.DOWN.

I 100% agree in theory, but watch the last minute and a half or something, we were extremely lucky to not get scored on, which would have sucked for one of the main reasons this team is turning around.

If we scored an EN in the first 3 minutes in that situation, then game is over and both juste waste the last few minutes 5 in 5 until it’s over

Are they allergic to scoring into an empty net? lol when is the last time we scored an EN goal?

Maybe scoring an empty netter would make life easier for Ullmark into getting a shutout? They almost screwed it up again
two games ago against the hurricanes?

I was watching the game and at the start of the second accident my fell asleep, opened my eyes at the start of the third and it was 2-0. Confused for a moment, but then energized to watch the third.

Nice win boys!

Just going to memory hole Matt Murray, are you?
He was injured all the time, and the situation was a disaster, but imo he wasn't quite the train wreck Korpisalo was. He even posted a .906 that 2nd season. Korpisalo goes down as the worst UFA signing ever in Ottawa, to this point at least.

Get Stutzle out there. He is the best on the team at scoring on an empty net.

Best at zone exits and entries, great speed. Not having him out with an empty net is a huge miss from the coaching staff.

Unfortunately having Gaudette on the wing seems to be preventing Green from trusting that line to defend in the last few minutes.

I like Gaudette but he's simply not good enough to put into the top 6.

I personally like the idea of switching up Norris/Pinto/Greig assignments if need be. Try Norris on Stu's RW. Or better, Pinto (because he's a heavier player and a good shot) and slot Greig into 3C where he's probably more natural.

I get not wanting to shake things up too much, though. It just seems like a strange call to put Gaudette up there when he's not doing much outside of shooting.

I doubt Green was too worried they were about to lose the game. He clearly trusts Norris and Pinto defensively, so I think it's more about getting those 2 lines out there.

Agree about Gaudette defensively, he looks absolutely lost at times, but the effort is there and he's actually clicked reasonably with Stu imo. That backhand saucer to put him on a breakaway last night was money.
