Barry (2019) (* T.V. Show on H.B.O. - Season 2 /
Episodes 1 - 4 *) :

Think of a funny Dexter...

The first half of Season 2 is quite good. Looking forward to the remaining 4 episodes - they will be released by the end of May.

Doom Patrol (binged all episodes up to Frances Patrol)

My God, DCU is killing it so far. I've enjoyed the three shows I've watched so far (Young Justice, Titans and now Doom Patrol). I didn't think I would enjoy Doom Patrol this much. The episodes do a great job of giving each character their fair share of spotlight. The acting is excellent and I love how crazy it is without making things confusing.

It reminds me of The Magicians where there's all kinds of insane stuff going on and the heroes are not really heroes. They also don't get along all that great. Both fun shows.

I'll give Doom Patrol a 9/10 so far.

What We Do in the Shadows, episode 6.

The visiting Baron informs the crew he wants to have a night out on the town, but as he's a partially desiccated vampire, Colin rustles up some civvies for him. He then looked like a partially desiccated vampire wearing a baseball hat and brown jacket. So attired, he and the gang set off to enjoy the night, each planning to kill the other. But hey, they end up hitting it off after all. They drink some drunk people and get drunk, drink some drugged people and get drugged, sing karaoke, dance at a rave, the Baron decides to try some "pizza pie" and launches himself through the air via his own vomit like a chihuahua holding onto the end of a firehose. Just get home before daylight, guys! No, really. You really want to do that if you're a vampire.

Hilarious show. Keeps getting funnier.

"I drank the blood of some people and the people were on drugs and now I'm a wizard...!" --Nandor, wearing a traffic cone on his head.

Twilight Zone / Episode 6 /
Six Degrees Of Freedom [2019] :

* A group of culturally diverse astronauts leave for Mars after the world is destroyed.

Easily the best episode so far - altho, TBH, I didn't understand the ending.

8.5/10

Flesh and Bone [2015] :

A friend recommended it but, all the beautiful women aside, I quit after Episode 1 - too much of a soap opera feel.

Wellington Paranormal: the first three episodes.

Remember the cops who visited the house in What We Do in the Shadows after Peter was killed after a confrontation with a vampire hunter? They've got their own show now. Wellington Paranormal follows Officers Minogue and O'Leary, the two dumbest deadpan cops in New Zealand as they investigate demons, aliens, ghosts and other weird things that go bump in the night. More mockumentary laughs from the Waititi and Clement laugh factory.

Most of it's on youtube now. A lot better than the new Twilight Zone.

Barry (Season 2) :

First 7 episodes are so much fun. Finale was a let down until the final 15 minutes when all hell broke loose. Overall, Season 2 was even better than Season 1 - and that's saying a lot.

Smart. Intense. Really funny!

9/10

Twilight Zone / Episode 9 / The Blue Scorpion [2019] :

* A gun has a mind all its own.

The 2019 Twilight Zone produces week after week of crap, and then, every so often, when it's NOT trying to teach us a lesson, it surprises to the upside. This was one of those weeks.

The rest of Wellington Paranormal. Episodes 1-6 are the full season, and all are on youtube. Well worth watching if you're a fan of:

What We Do in the Shadows. Latest episode has Nandor, Lazslo and Nadja being selected to host the latest biannual vampire orgy. To hold a bad orgy is an incredible mark of shame in the vampire community; sometimes the hosts transform into bats and never take human form again out of shame. "Shame-bats. You can tell them because they don't fly as high." Nadja goes into overdrive bossing Guillermo about to prepare their house for the event, while Lazslo discovers a box of old porno movies he's been in over the last hundred years or so. Nadja is the picture of unimpressed ambivalence, and Lazslo sulks in his coffin on the night of action. Guillermo has a crisis of conscience when he invites his old school chum over to be the sacrificial virgin, but all's well that ends well in that regard. Note: vampire orgy supplies are not generally stocked at Staten Island Dollaramas. FYI.

Best comedy on tv right now.

Just finished the finale of black sails, and WOW, what a show. How wasn’t this show more popular? Seriously one of the most underrated shows out there. Probably has a spot in my top 3 shows of all time. Outstanding.

It had character development done right. Like, with John Silver becoming Long John Silver. I thought back to how different he was in the begining and how every decision he made leading to his transformation from a self-serving thief (basically) to a pirate captain made sense.

Chernobyl - 2.0 (Positive)

For me, this pretty much occupies the same space as Band of Brothers does. It's kind of like "Hey, here's a really crucial historical event that you should really know about and fully appreciate the weight and importance of. We've produced it perfectly and tastefully, as a salute to all the people from this event who sacrificed for the greater good."

That's great. It's a valuable lesson, and is an admirable and worthwhile effort. The details of the real event are fascinating, horrific to think about, and make you feel sick to your stomach. However, to me, that sort of thing still can only take you so far. You hear people say things like "this is the greatest thing I've ever seen in any medium" and I don't see that at all. It's a bit overrated for me in that sense.

It's a high quality but directed-by-the-numbers dramatization about something important, that I would have equally appreciated learning about by being told what happened. I wouldn't call it inspired genius, transcendent beauty, or anything that actually matters to me as a creative work. But it's good/tasteful, doesn't have any major flaws that hurt it, and is worth watching.

Gomorrah, season 2 last episode.

Mob drama following the Camorra, the mafia who control all cocaine and heroin dealing in Naples. Naples? Yeah. Don't go there. It's a slum of derelict, graffiti-covered apartment blocks that make black American ghettos look like the palace of Versailles. Death and destruction are delivered via bowl cut-wearing kids with bad mustaches riding scooters, and everything is about getting and defending drug dealing spots. Drama has been building to a head when the renegade factions led by former Savastano captain Don Ciro di Marzio start to fall out with each other as the exiled Don Pietro Savastano flexes his muscles behind the scenes, setting various factions against each other. His son Gennaro schemes to take over for himself while juggling importing all the cocaine from Honduras with his upcoming nuptials with Azzura, pregnant daughter of Rome's mob boss Guisseppe. Who will triumph in the end? Watch and see.

Not bad. Still waiting for the next couple of seasons; apparently they're up to four, but only the first two are on Netflix. Probably the single least glamorous portrayal of mob life I've ever seen.

I recently started watching the Goldbergs' spinoff (Schooled) on Hulu..

Most recent episode, 'The Rudy-ing of Toby Murphy' is pretty good. The writing & cast isn't as funny as The Goldbergs, but still entertaining nostalgia. Inspired by the movie Rudy, the high school football team lets an undersized student on the team for a game. Brief cameos from 'Erica Goldberg' & now middle-aged Boyz 2 Men.

I rate the episode a 6 (on 10 pt scale).

About five years after the original He-man finished, there was a re-imagined He-man series.. (The New Adventures of He-man).
A He-man (YouTube) channel recently uploaded the 1990 series premier..

It utilized generic '80s animé art, trimmed down He-man's Mr Olympia physique, and gave Skeletor a forgettable makeover.
The first episode' backstory is basically that a pony-tailed He-man is retrieved from the past, to save the future. Besides the character alterations, animators also abandoned the cool skies that set the mood of original Eternia.. There was an early 2ooos He-man reboot that was good & truer to the original '80s framework. This first episode (A New Beginning) offered no memorable upgrades, or additions, to the original.. a weak, generic supporting cast. The storyline was typical for a kid's cartoon.. but lacked the personality and muscle of it's forerunner.

bizarre, new Skeletor..

I'm watching a MacGyver episode and there was just a scene where MacGyver sits on a bed that's been rigged with a bomb and can't get up without it going off. It plays out exactly like the toilet scene in Lethal Weapon 2, even with them noting that the bomb blows up, not out, and the solution being Thornton grabbing MacGyver by the hands and pulling him to the ground. The episode is from 1987, while the movie is from 1989, so it seems likely that the movie writers got the idea from the episode. I just find that an interesting bit of possible trivia and cool that some movie writers were probably fans of my favorite show growing up.

That's just wrong. Maybe it's best that I missed that newer series.

'Its a Totally Happening Life' (1992)

Doing more nostalgic watching on Hulu.. an old Beverly Hills 90210 Christmas episode. A nod to 'Its a Wonderful Life'; where angels are watching the cast experience some Christmas time stress.
An earlier episode, where they were still in high school & take a field trip spreading holiday cheer in the barrio. Basically a nice story, hard to believe the episode is pushing 30 years old..

High School USA!

Adult animated series I found on Hulu, watched it's first 2 episodes recently.
The characters are apparent knock offs of original Archie comics (and the aesthetic & vacant/generic backgrounds remind me of Archie's Weird Mysteries' artwork). There's a bully who's a ringer for Reggie, and lead character closely resembles Archie.. They also convene @ a Pops-like diner.

Premier episode was ok, second episode was crasser & boring. Ill probably check out a few more even tho it's basically unimaginative. I rate the first episodes 3 (on a 10 point scale)
