Richard Jewell. 8/10

The movie is directed very well and moves along at a nice pace. I also love the fact that it’s modest in the sense that it does not revolve around a star actor (and rather a slovenly, average, overweight normal guy).

The only thing annoying was an obvious injection of personal agenda and politics by Clint Eastwood into various pieces. Did we really need to fabricate the concept of a reporter sleeping with a member of the FBI to fish out stories? Did we really need completely random anti-government dialogue sprinkled in to scenes? I somehow missed the fact that it was an Eastwood film and was noticing the agenda at various times in the movie. Made a ton of sense when the credits rolled and I saw his name.

Regardless, a story that needed to be told about a misunderstood, quiet individual who activated dormant abilities in a time of serious need and handled injustice with humbleness and grace.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: 6.8/10 Far from great but not a total disaster either. An average and highly predictable movie.

The Empire Strikes Back remains the only great Star Wars movie.

Watched a lot of crap in the last few days.....

Pet Semetary (Lambert, 1989) - I had good memories of that film, and it does have somewhat of a particular atmosphere to it, but damn there's a lot of sillyness and the actors are terrible. 4/10 (that's with an extra point for nostalgia)

Pet Semetary II (Lambert, 1992) - There is nothing redeemable about this crap, worst film I've seen in quite a while. 1/10

Pet Semetary (Kölsch & Widmyer, 2019) - I wanted to see the original films before in case there'd be intertextual value to it, but nah... twice they play with your expectations, but that's about it. I guess the sillyness of the original is toned down somewhat, and the actors are certainly a lot better here, but there's none of that soul the first film had. Pretty much straightforward horror remake. 3/10

John Wick 3 - Parabellum (Stahelski, 2019) - First film was dumb fun, second one was ok at best, this one is so f***ing repetitive and boring. Some nice shots and funny kills don't hold up for a 2+ hours long film. 2/10

The Two Popes (Meirelles, 2019) - (to echo ORRFForever's post: as a proud antitheist and someone who thinks the people portrayed in this film are overdue for their lobotomy) A film that's simple enough to put forward great performances and chemistry by the two leads, and complex enough that it certainly hides a few layers that went over my head. 7/10

Uncut Gems - 8.5/10

The description of this movie as one, long adrenaline rush/panic attack is apt. Whether one wants to sit through 2+ hours of that is another story.

Uncut Gems: a generous 7/10

Good time was terrible and one of my worse theatre experience with how bad the movie was + the creepy pedophile scene. Uncut gems is at least watchable with a very good performance from Sandler. Sadly from him, it's a very good year for the best actor category and it might not be enough for him to get a nomination.

I watched CATS last night for work (free admission). I can't even rate it. I don't know what the f*** I watched.

I did really really like one song. But aside from that I have no opinion because I .. don't understand what I saw.

Yes but I liked his wife more. She had a unique "look" to her, but the gf was definitely the kinder of the two.
lol his wife is Idina Menzel and a mother ****in legend so put some respect on her name please ;)

Uncut Gems is also a generous 7/10 for me. It really wasn't that great...it was just Adam Sandler yelling the whole time.
That being said it was good execution of edge of your seat thrills accompanied with a gripping score; and it is a great depiction and climax of a gambling addict.

Peanut Butter Falcon
7.5/10
Wholesome movie with a nice 90's style movie aesthetic going for it, and Shia Labeuof killing it.

Gemini Man
2/10
Dumb AF

So I watched CATS for work again last night. I still don't really understand what I saw, but .... officially, I don't hate it. The acting is superb, yet strange. The music is fantastically performed and engaging. The lack of dialogue, even for a musical, is weird. The lack of story for a fairly long movie is also weird. But I think I'm ready to rate it and I'll give it a 7/10. I liked it more than I disliked it. And I would go as far to say as I very much enjoyed the final act after the strange, weird, crazy, and slower paced first two thirds of the film.

Also saw Spies in Disguise. It was fine for what it was. 6.5/10. I actually liked Arctic Dogs much more.

Star Wars : 3/10

so much ridiculous BS even for a fantasy movie, extremely predictable and repeatable plot lines.

Luke’s spirit using force to lift a space ship from under the water? Gtfo with this shit

Brightburn (Yarovesky, 2019) - There's something really interesting in the demonstration - making a variation on a trope that's so popular that you don't need explanations nor direct references. But the movie is flat and of no great interest in itself (I still appreciated that they kept playing it dark til the end). 4/10

Oh and I watched the first episode of Too Old to Die Young, thanks to @Savi in the best show thread, and that was better than anything I've watched this year apart from Marriage Story. The pace seemed a little forced at some points, but still... That's a hell of a commitment though, it's almost 10 movies.

I watched Nocturnal Animals. Not sure how this one slipped past me, I'm a big fan of Gyllenhaal's acting, I usually try to seek stuff from him out. Easily one of the most well structured movies I've seen. The device they have set up with how the two stories play out works really well and it's really interesting how they become intertwined as the movie goes along. The book part of the story on its own is such an entertaining piece of work, but when you view it through the lens of everything else going on it just gives it a whole new dynamic. Really interesting commentary on the masculinity and how being a romantic can be perceived as weakness. It has an ending that you can read in a few different ways as well. Overall, fantastic movie.

I also saw In Fabric. I was really looking forward to this one. I think it took me a while to get into it, but ultimately I did start to enjoy it more and more as it went along, and I was satisfied by the end of it. I don't think the comedic notes were hitting particularly well until probably halfway through, when the movie starts to embrace its absurdity more and more. I think the trailer for it (which is absolutely fantastic), does a good job communicating what the movie is, although it's slower paced than I expected. Love the Giallo style behind everything, it really feels like it could have come out in that era.
