One of Kampf or Jarnkrok almost has to be out the door for the team to make any impactful acquisition.

As I'm not a big fan of either guy, I'm fine if they're both gone.

I don’t know where the Laughton group think originated but if it’s our pro scouting, I’m not impressed. For years we’ve built these lame bottom six groups full of these indistinguishable plain forwards who are a little bit two way, a little bit utility, a little bit of safety but very little upside, special size profile, athleticism, or real personality and winning pedigree. I look at Laughton and I’m thinking Kerfoot-Jarnkrok base model with slightly different settings, low upside, low impact.

He’s done a good job creating a secondary defensive and goaltending backbone but his forward work has been poor.

The only player on that list that I think we may not see again is Steeves. Not because he shouldn’t be in the NHL but because of numbers.

I think there will be far less action than people are expecting. I’m ok with that. Big changes can disrupt things. This is a first place team

There may be less action, and we are in first place in the division, but a few moves should definitely be done. With our cap situation, it may be difficult to add impact players. Also, if we're going to add peripheral players like Edmundson, Dewar, Lybushkin, then don't do it. There are those who say this team will only go as far as our core brings us, in which case, it's better to do nothing.

However, we are not playoff ready with what we have now. Our goalies are going to have to stand on their heads, and we have to avoid injuries. Some believe our players look tired. Well, how can this group be trusted to play their hearts out every second night if they're going to get fatigued that easily?

Robertson seems a positive now, whatever else that needs working on, he seems like a useful third line guy. Then again, that pass the other night gives me a case of the Kerfoots, so...I don't know.

I think the club still believes in Reaves' value even if it is as some looming albeit seldom activated threat. And depending on what prices we're looking at, a "healthy" Jarnkrok becomes playoffs fodder.

I prefer to look at it from the other GM's needs in addition to our own; Which GM looks at Reaves and says: "That's a yes."?

For me Tanev going down should at least set off bells that our D depth needs support. I don't get the romance with Laughton, but I see merit in Ristolainen and/or Seeler.

Another element I hope we're focused on is competition for assets.

We're not "there" yet; Years ago I got piled on for saying we'd have to learn to win by going through a gauntlet that most champions do. That's done by graduation, including LOSING in the Conference Finals, and LOSING in the Finals. So I don't want to compete for assets with clubs like Carolina who have a heavier asset base and experience winning. We are not in the same category and wont be until our core collectively leads.

Alex Tuch was a name brought up recently. I like that and I'd move some combination of Minten, Cowen and 1st for him. And it's a year after this at $4.5M. Yes please.

I think Mark Jankowski is low-hanging fruit in Nashville as a 4C candidate? And then there's Tanev's brother in Seattle. Tough not to see how catalyzing that might be in the room.

So in the primary assets category: Alex Tuch and Fabian Zetterlund; Kesselring (RHD) if McBain as well. Secondary assets: Seeler (LHD) and with Tanev lesser of the two outlays. And then a piece like Jankowski which shouldn't be much more than a late pick, questionable prospect, futures type level.

All the assets mentioned have some control about them I believe. They're all under $4.5 annually and they're the right profile that supports as needs must. Tuch is the exception, but I think he's a need-type player. As another member noted he plays like Knies. Can't have too many guys like that. Unfortunately for us the Kings are in the race or I'd say let's target Foegele as well.

Alex Tuch, Michael Kesselring and Jack McBain (or possibly Stenlund given his F/O prowess), Nick Seeler, Tanev the Crazier, Mark Jankowski; I think we've got the assets to load up for a couple of runs here if we wanted to...I don't know if we deserve it though.

And unfortunately, William Munny's line doesn't apply.

The thing is, when we look at Cup winners or finalists, we look at their 3C, those 3Cs can be 2Cs. We can’t do that bc of the caphit on our 1C and 2C. That’s why our 3C and bottom 6 will always be at best-great bottom 6 players instead of lower end 2nd line players.

And the spoiler alert is that it's clear that's never going to happen. So me, I'd be perfectly content if this team save their picks & prospects until this core is long gone.

So Florida has improved their team, Tampa improved their team today....quite honestly we better make a trade that improves our team or Tre has alot to answer for. If they're willing to make moves to upgrade their teams, so should we. Our team as currently constituted, will not survive an injury to a key player (i.e. Tanev, McCabe, Nylander).

That's the other issue - the steep price for those two guys likely means the price on the others just went up.

I was watching Overdrive and I kind of agree with O-Dog in that smart thing is to lay low for all the reasons discussed already ... On the other hand, the competitiveness part of us kind of wants to blow the roof off and go big to push ahead of Florida/TB.

But if you're going to do that, really go all-in. Like Rantanen, Boeser & L.Schenn for the blueline (yes, I get cap-wise impossible but just making the point of what really going for it looks like).
