Add two more incidents -

South Korea flight went off the track and killed nearly 200 people.

Malfunction on Air Canada Flight grounded in Halifax, no casualties but half the plane caught on fire during landing as the second wheel didn't deploy.

I guess the survival stats still favor air travel safety risks over the risks of driving to/from the airports. But the global aerospace industry isn't doing themselves any favors for future earnings. I'm increasingly prone to remain in North America & take my chances behind my own steering wheel. ☸️

The fact that even just 2 people survived that is amazing.
Per this BBC report ...
South Korea's National Fire Agency said two members of the flight crew - a man and a woman - had survived the crash.

The man has woken up and is "fully able to communicate", according to Yonhap (News Agency), which cites the director of the Seoul hospital where he is being treated.

So there might be clues of those crew members' circumstances of survival released soon. My current speculation would be that they were strapped in for the emergency landing & their rear-facing positions (and possibly their location(s) within the structure) contributed to their better fortunes. :dunno:

That would seem to be the only possibility, seeing as that rear portion of the fuselage was the only part that wasn’t completely disintegrated in a fireball.
