Wings are not likely a playoff team. Larkin's best friend is Mantha (on the Caps). Any chance this happens and what return is needed for the Wings to do this deal?

Why trade one of their top young players?
Larkin imo fits into their timeline just fine
but I would assume they would want a prospect that has potential to be a number 1 C + more

If Stevie Y is as smart as everyone says he'll cash in on Larkin and Bertuzzi's career seasons. Detroit is years away from even making the playoffs in the Atlantic let alone competing for a Stanley Cup.

  First off the Caps don't have the pieces to land Larkin, Secondly Larkin will cost anywhere from 8 x $8,500,000 to 8 x $9,000,000 on his next contract and the Caps can't afford it. Larkin is absolutely going nowhere and even if he were Washington doesn't make a good trading partners.

First off not true, Larkin and Mantha have never been the best of friends. Larkin and Zach Werenski are the best of friends. So are we going to deal Larkin to Columbus? The answer is No. And i'm getting sick and tired of how Detroit is still a long ways away from competing. first off now one really know's that. Detroit will eventually have one of the better D cores in the league and our Goaltending should be better as well. 2-3 years away at the most and Larkin still fits our timeline.

Funny, I remember regularly hearing his best friend is Zach Werenski.

“It was shocking,” Larkin said. “It hurt. It was hard. We’ve been together for a long time and we’ve kind of grown up together and we still have a lot of growing to do but he’s one of my best friends in life."

I think a lot of people have multiple people they consider very close or best friends. I'm sure he's close with both Werenski and Mantha. But, most people in professional hockey realize it's a business, and you may not play with your friends. I doubt Detroit has much interest in trading Larkin for anything but a better C who is the same age or younger, or a very dramatic overpayment. They have multiple nice young D-men or prospects, and have a great young winger plus some other good ones. I don't see why they would trade a good player in his mid 20's who plays the position their prospect pool and team is the weakest at.

No, there is no chance this happens, and if they were to trade him they'd get more of what they need from other teams since WAS doesn't have anything that would make sense.

NHL GMs don't trade players so that they can be with their best friends. It's a business not a preschool.

concur.
DET obv needs more depth, but they are legit, their higher end picks have made them bonafide as they turn the corner

this ^. It's one thing to say a guy had chemistry with another guy previously, and to some extent that may or may not be part of a system. But to go play with your friend is never enough an incentive on its own for GMs to accommodate players, or even in a vacuum for players who are pushing to exit a club to go to a particular club.

Fox forced a trade to Rangers. But that was because he loved the club since he was a kid, not to hang with any particular player. Also NY is an international media market, which is another basis for incentive.

There is quite literally no package from Washington that would get it done. Like no combo of players
