Laraque... the prophet

again if the notion that a deterrant has to be abandoned unless it works 100% of the time, how do you feel about the fire department ?

Yes we still lose weise. but which is worse losing weise AND Moen or losing just Weise ( and I'll even entertain the unlikely combination of losing Weise and Parros). On which one do the habs come out better ?

lmao I think you mean Police department. Unless we're talking some freaky Dr Snuggles type **** where naughty sentient flames go jumping about starting fires.

5'9" and under playing a regular shift in the Western Conference (found at tsn.ca):

ANA- Perreault (5'10")
CGY- Byron, Cammalleri, Hudler (5'10")
CHI- Bouchard (5'11), Kane (5'11")
EDM- Arcobello
MIN- Spurgeon
NSH- Bourque(5'10"), Ellis(5'10")
VAN- Shroeder (only 22 gp)

MTL- Desharnais (5'6"), Gallagher, Gionta, Bouillon, Weaver (5'10")

Okay I checked these out. Different sites (NHL, Wiki, TSN, HockeyDB) have different data so if we're using TSN as you suggested for the heights then most of the above are not 5'9" or shorter. Neither are Briere or Weaver, both list at 5'10" on tsn -- a site sponsored by elevator shoes?

Regular players at/under 5'9" on the Montréal Canadiens: 4
Regular players at/under 5'9" in the Entire West Conference: 4

So as we knew the Habs are small. I'm no size freak (¬‿¬) but I know that in a physical game, size matters. It's physics.

Back to the OP I fear if we get manhandled as we have in the past it would be good if someone could lay down the law. Officials tend not to do that so much in the playoffs. Maybe Murray will punch Lucic and make him cry ;)

Laraque...sheat! He defrauded the Habs, enforcer my butt! What did he do? He laughed all the way to the bank, was a horrible deputy leader of the green party, sued. He should just ****.

Emelin did more in 1 game (last game against Ruins) than Laraque did in his entire Habs career.

So every team that goes through a series of injuries go through that because they don't have enough good enforcers??

Can't believe some people still believe this crap. 2014 guys. 20 freaking 14.

Funny thing is if another team had Parros, Murray, White, Prust, Moen and Weise, with Tinordi and Bouillon on the sideline as well, while sitting 2nd in the division, 3rd in East, the same fans criticizing the Habs would point to that team to say ''look at that team!''.

Where would the Blackhawka be without Brandon Bolig!? Probably the basement.

Thats why I said that I love threads like this.:laugh:

You are an example of someone who carries to the farthest extreme by saying the BlackHawks would be in the basement without Bollig.

And then KrissE saying that I think that Thornton was the MVP of the Bruins Stanley Cup win.

 Hyperbole on parade.

The reality is that the BlackHawks dressed Bollig against the Bruins to show them that the goonish play would not work.

And, Thornton being reinserted into the playoffs after sitting for the first two games reignited the Bruins and gave them momentum.

The hyperbole sounds better though.;)

One of Bergevin's priorities will be to find a new enforcer this summer.

Yep.

Gazdic is an RFA for the Oilers. I would love to have him here since he is one of the better fighters in the NHL and has potted a couple of goals.

Young big and mean. We could give up a 4th rounder to Edmonton since they love their picks.

An adequate solution.

Ah, we miss the good old days of seeing Hamrlik, Spacek and Pyatt get beaten to a pulp by the 4th liners from Boston.

Just turn the cheek and keep on going. Maybe we will get a PP out of it.

And.....if my memory serves me, the referees did not give us a PP after that beat down and none of the Bruins were suspended for instigating at the end of the game.

Damn.....

The prophet should have done something by himself. Make Lucic turtle. Who the **** cares if you go after him in a regular season game. Who cares if he's suspended. Send a message.

I would remove fighting out of this game. Totally. But it's in this game now. You then have to play within the rules.

We all know what you believe. That there's this trickled down effect to having an enforcer. That's a belief of yours that you will never be able to prove. You're the one making this claim, but have no factual data to prove it. So instead, you rely on hearsay and strawman.

On the flip side though, we know that having an enforcer factually does not prevent injuries. It doesn't prevent clean or even dirty hits. We know that it does not make a player score more. We know that it changes nothing to the end result of a game 99% of the time.

All it does is give this false sense of comfort for about half a second.
MaxPac can feel amazing walking down the hallway and onto the ice with Parros in front of him, but when the game starts and he needs to skate by Chara you can bet your ass that this ''comfort'' level is gone.

I'm not even against having enforcers. The reason why is that if Thornton or Scott or Fraser or whoever is looking for a fight, then I want us to have a partner for them. Other than that, an enforcer is completely useless. No need to pretend otherwise.

I like you Kriss.

So I will leave it at this......

Who do we believe and trust more?

You?

or

NHL GM's who sign the paycheck for enforcers on their team?

Hamrlik is the one that initiated the whole thing by shooting the puck in the Bruins net after a whistle while Thornton was on the ice. Clearly, having an enforcer also doesn't prevent trolling from opponents.
We got beat down, and we were still trying to score right up until the last second, which we did btw.

Pouliot laid out Krejci too. Price put Thomas on his ass.

Love the strawman. The same GMs you disagree with on various other issues?? Suddenly you listen to them when their decisions follow your beliefs, but you have no problem pointing their wrongs when you disagree?? Pretty hypocritical don't you think?

There's no need for strawman or hyperbole. You believe the presence of an enforcer is crucial. You have no actual FACTS and by that I mean raw data, that prove you right. You rather not pay attention to that, which is fine. It's your own belief. There's no actual proof that there's a God and yet, look at how many people in this world (even some of the most educated and intelligent ones) believe that there is one.
So it's cool. It's a belief. But don't try to argue without fact that your belief is reality.

GMs employ enforcers.

Sorry Kriss, that is fact.

I love the burden of proof that you place on people who dont mind fighting in the NHL. Raw data. Even throwing out the religion comparison.

Let it go Kriss. You are on the wrong side of this discussion. If there were no playoff teams that did not have enforcers, you might have a valid beef. But, there are and you dont.

You are simply offering your opinion that is counter to reality. But that's what makes message boards fun.

Damn, I miss the good old days of 07-08 when we wiped out the Bruins during the regular season series with the help of enforcer extraordinaire Tom Kostopoulos.

Yep.

Laraque just needs to shut his veggie hole. At least Prust and Parros protected their teammates he did NOTHING. Code or no he should have beat the **** out of Lucic and protected his team mates. The guy got released disgracefully cause he didn't do his job which makes his opinion on anything Habs related irrelevant.

Damn.....

That beat-down pissed me off like no other. I was furious and embarrassed just like you were, just like I'd assume the players on our team were.

But searching for an enforcer isn't a priority, it should be the last god damn thing on Bergevin's mind. This team needs to replace Gionta. They need to keep Vanek (or find a replacement). They need to extend Subban. They need to hire a new coach. Etc.

Picking up a fighter is no biggie at all - and I don't have an opinion about it one way or the other. Sure it's nice to have a fighter but it's pretty much a waste of a roster spot. Then again we're starting to play a harder-edged game and will need a tough guy here an there to "answer the bell" when things get out of hand, which for a few games a season they invariably will.

Couldn't care less about getting an enforcer. However I would like us to get bigger and grittier throughout the lineup. If we could replace the deadwood with those kinds of players in addition to the core we already have I think we could be a very, very good team.

Priority is to keep what we've got ie. sign Subban and Vanek. Once that's done (if we can do it) then work on getting bigger players who can actually PLAY hockey. Forget the Murrays and Parros type guys.... get guys who can carry the puck somewhat and can't be pushed around.

I know, easier said than done... but that should be the goal.
