Value of: Lane Hutson's off-season contract

was a mistake by the gm
same with Subban in montreal.
Mistake for sure, only makes sense if it's a team that's a contender like Dallas and Harley. Gotta get long term on Hutson in this scenario.

I'm not hoping for anything. You asked for an example.

Point and mcavoy had cap structure windows on contenders to fit in which explains those bridge deals

Tkachuk was a gm mistake
Werenski used leverage on an undesirable market
Boeser isn’t a star

Habs and Hutson will come to a 6 or 8 year deal

You asked for one example of a top player signing a 3 year bridge, i gave you 5 examples.

It’s okay, we all make mistakes!

In the flat cap era the long term deal was roughly 8 x 8 give or take. Scale it up for the current cap limits and maybe it becomes an 8 x $10 contract? Guys will want to sign a good market contract that doesn’t leave too much on the table but doesn’t undersell the player. If MTL is convinced he’s the real deal they aren’t doing themselves any favors pushing it off with a bridge. Just figure out the number and get it done .

Matthews signed a shorter term 5y deal too. Not really that rare at all. Harley too very recently.
