Value of: Lane Hutson's off-season contract

Jake Sanderson & Owen Power are the comparables here for an 8 year contract.

9 million would be the cap equivalent, but with everyone knowing the cap is exploding over the next few years I would say the equivalent contract is going to be seen as 10m.

I love Jakes two way game but Lane has had a significantly better start to his career. 12 million seems like about right if you want him for 8 years. If I was his agent, that would be my arguement.

Power contract looks a bit bad but still could be a value contract if he develops further.

Sandersons contract looks great and will likely be considered among the best in the NHL in its second half.

If Hutson would sign 10-11 by 8 the Habs should jump on it.

Reading through the thread (7 pages now), I haven't seen anyone mention (I might have missed it though) that Hutson, LHD has been playing on the right side, and has not looked out of place at all. This kid's hockey IQ is just off the charts.

He IS the biggest reason why this bottom 5 team from last year, in in a WC spot this year. The Calder should by all rights be his. We all know that it isn't though.

Definitely deserves it.

Quinn Hughes seems the obvious comparison...

Quinn Hughes signed a 6 year, $47,100,000 contract with a cap hit of $7,850,000 per season. His contract was signed on October 1, 2021, and expires at the end of the 2026-27 season, when Hughes will be 27 years old.

And Hutson has way better numbers.

So many GMs must be kicking themselves for not drafting him.

Of course they should try. I said Hutson would be an idiot to go long term.
Why would it be idiotic for Hutson to sign long term? He gets to play in Montreal (best fans in the league and fabulous city who loves their players) and it’s a young core that will only continue to be better.
I could see 8 x 10-12. And that’s a steal contract for this player.

Makar and Hughes are about to reset the D market. Hutson needs to wait until that happens before signing long term. He could realistically get 2 x 7-8M and then go 8 x 15M.

True. But maybe Hutson resets the D market? 8 x 12 would be great for him and the Habs. And Habs’ management locks up their core guys with long contracts.

Im willing to bet Hutson doesn't take a bridge. Awful lot of risk in that.
Not really. We are getting to the point that a 3 year bridge for top players is set for life money. 24M over 3 years takes a lot of risk off the table and sets you up for a 120M additional payday.

Its incredibly rare and I cant see it happening. But I understand a fan from another team hoping that something like this would happen.

Calder winner deserves 12M he is definitely worth it pay him anything he wants he literally took an embarrassing team that was in the lottery 3 years in a row to most likely making the playoffs
