Hamilton is simply a much better fit for NJDs PP. Hutson provides virtually 0 shot threat from the point. Hamilton provides an elite one. NJD's PP needs that shot threat, since Jack/Bratt aren't really snipers. NJD would much rather have the puck on Jack and Bratt's sticks as much as possible on the PP. In fact, the rest of the PP is built around maximizing them as much as possible. Nico to win faceoffs, Noesen to dig pucks out of corners and get it to Jack/Bratt, Hamilton to draw defenders with his shot threat.Honestly I'm not a Hutson fan boy at all. Yes I like what he brings to the team, but he's not 'my type' of player in general. I'm just observing what he is.
If they didn't put him on the Devils opening night, that would be a great mistake from day 1, but specially knowing what we know now... Hutson didn't simply belong in the NHL, he's been dominating since training camp.
Why wouldn't he bump Hamilton or Hughes of the PP? He bump Matheson in Montreal, who was just coming of a 9th best in the nhl (among defenseman), 62 pts season.
Hutson does not fit well into that at all.
