On draft day, Simon Nemec was considered by many to be the best defencemen in the 2022 draft. Some even had him first overall.

Halfway through their D+3 season and Hutson is taking the NHL by storm.

Who is going to be the better player long term?

Close it up.

Really? Cmon lol
Close it up because it is obvious for one or the other or close it up why?

Nemec is still a very talented prospect. Hutson is behaving like a superstar right now, but D-men take time. This is legit not an attempt at trolling. I know some would still have Nemec. I am interested in hearing their perspective. I take Hutson. But, we can still have civil discourse.

There’s a clear agenda here.

Nemec got hurt right before training camp and has not looked particularly good since. It’s obviously Hutson right now. He’s an absolute gamebreaker.

Nemec did have a really good rookie season last year though, hopefully he can get fully healthy and put it all back together. This was March of last year:

Not very nice making this poll seeing u are a Habs fan lol

This poll will be an absolute landslide in favour of Hutson… the only way anyone picks nemec is just to be silly or due to hating the Canadiens and not able to vote anything Montreal Canadiens haha

Eh, I understand the why. After terrible luck with Slafkovsky and KK and passing on Michkov, among other bad moves and overall futility, it feels good to have a player hit the ground running like Hutson.

Hutson looked dominant against Vancouver but I went with Nemec because I wanted to.
I mean Nemec played more games and its pretty normal for Young players to have slouches early on. If some Hab's fans want to believe that Hutson will be one of the rare few that never have a down turn early in their career then good for them.

I think all joking aside the future outlook for both players looks great and this will be a much bigger debate once Nemec is back on the NHL track. He looked great last year and there is no reason to think he won't return. The Devils have six legit top four defensemen and are in win now mode so this isn't Nemec or Casey's year.

This poll is silly though, one guy is running in the NHL while the other lost his spot, so there really is only one choice.

I understand what you're saying, but if Hutson was on the Devils, he would be playing in the NHL and contributing now.

I’d rather have Luke Hughes than both
meh, depends what you already have. in a vacuum, Hutson is a more impactful player right now and a bit younger.

Hutson struggled early in the year, and has exploded since the start of November.

There is a very real chance he doesn't get the opportunity to work through those early struggles in NJD, just like Nemec and Casey did not once Luke and Pesce came back.

Here were the 3's results up till the point Luke and Pesce got healthy.

Given NJDs roster makeup and needs, I'm not sure he sticks on the roster.

Luke and Hamilton fill PP and offensive duties, and Kovy, Siegs, Dillon and Pesce fill PK and defensive duties. I don't see a role for Hutson there

lol at a bit younger. Overall I completely disagree. Luke Hughes is far superior defensively and would likely be similar offensively given his opportunities.

Hutson playing for the Devils, I wouldn't be too sure about that. Nemec had a ten game start paired with fellow RHD Seamus Casey. Both had their moments but were clearly outplayed by the other four guys. And Pesce and Luke were a lock to play when ready. Would Hutson have stuck after ten games? What would his role of even been those first ten games?

Now if Hutson joins the Devils tomorrow, yes, we can very confidently say he would remain in the NHL! But even then, who do the Devils get rid of?
