Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

Hutson is unlike anything we have seen since Chelios/Svboda(old dudes know) and accelerated the rebuild.

He needs to be more of a shot threat. When teams knew he wouldn't shoot, it became easier to defend.

I don't understand the mentality of refusing to shoot because of velocity. Look no further than Erik Karlsson during his prime years in Ottawa, he was more focused on getting pucks through than trying to be Shea Weber.

He handled the physical play of the playoffs, adapted very quickly, and was impressive, to say the least.

He is always exciting to watch, and with Demidov bringing the same element, we are headed for some fun years.

he did it often in the ncaa, it will come with time. hes too good to not improve that aspect at the nhl level

Next year might be too soon. While he's been really good at both ends of the ice with the Rocket, Reinbacher has a tendency to go really deep in the offensive zone and I'm not sure this will mesh well with Hutson, or at the very least necessitate a substantial adaptation period.
This is also confirmed by former Montreal Canadiens scout Grant McCagg.
"Folks on Twitter have been joking about Lane Hutson already training for next season It's no joke.

He's already been on the ice in Montreal since losing Game 5. A hockey freak."

I don't think its an issue of refusing to shoot. He does try to sift pucks through traffic, or shoot from sharper angles on the rush.

His shot is not that different from Quinn Hughes, but it took Quinn some years to figure out how to find the net, and i think lane will do the same as he gets more experience.

Neither he or Hughes are ever going to win a hardest shot competition. It's more about finding the opportunities to shoot in more dangerous areas more than anything else.

Subban's arrival was incredibly exciting. Same with Price. Unfortunately we never supported them. I really thought that we were going to win some cups with those guys but I also never expected our GM to go get guys like Dale Weise...

Now we've got so much great young talent with more picks and prospects on the way. And we've got a competent GM. I just wish we had Carey Price to go with it. We'd be invincible.

DR has a tendency to being absent.

At that age every week to improve your play matters....especially in those crucial summer months.

Hutson is a freak and I predict that we will see already à difference with his shot strength in October.

I am confident that the dude will shoot 1000 pucks a day

Just saw a mic'd up episode with Matheson and his 3-4 year old son, who's name is Hudson... lol Strange coincidence. As strange as Lane having one brother who's name is the same as the player he's most often compared with (Quinn) and another brother who's name is the same as one of his best teammates (Cole).
