I haven’t seen enough Hughes but I think he can occupy the space between Hughes and Makar.

I know this is sacrilege but if he ever tops Makar I wouldn’t be too surprised. He works too hard. He could end up being a 1 of 1.

He’ll be among the best in the league. But he will always have shortcomings in his game.

If he's able to develop his shot to the point of being a 15+ goal scorer like Hughes, he'll be a hart finalist at some point, maybe even win one.

Lane Hutson compared himself with Makar in an interview a few years ago. If Lane had a better shot and was playing with MacKinnon it wouldn't be a crazy comparison.

Having Makars shot is a massive if, he has a 10/10 shooting arsenal and its one of Lanes weakness. Also Makar is one of the most powerful skater out there. This plus his "size" difference set him apart from the Hughes and Hutsons.

Kid has proven to me that even though he’s a rookie and obviously small for a typical NHL defenceman, he is fully capable of handling NHL playoff hockey.

Lane has made some mistakes this series but overall he’s made the adjustment from regular season hockey to playoff hockey rather admirably. He’s still the best player on the ice most shifts.

Now imagine how good he’s going to be at 24-25-26 years old.

If Hutson didn’t smash every expectation anyone has ever had of him since being drafted than I wouldn’t even suggest it but Hutson’s work ethic is wild along with his development curve.

I’m certainly not guaranteeing it but I don’t think it’s impossible
