Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

Might have been too late if they waited too.

He saw an opportunity, gambled, his gamble paid off because they had possession by winning the faceoff.

The coach unfortunately, can't control the execution. If Hutson gets the puck in deep, we're not having this discussion.

Had they lost the faceoff, i'd get consternation.
You're not gambling on one play though... that's the thing about pulling a goalie, you make yourself extremely vulnerable until you score.

If there were ten minutes left in the game and we won that same faceoff, would you say the gamble paid off? I don't think you would.

But there wasn't 10 mins left.

There was less than 3 and we had the faceoff in their zone. I can't remember if they had iced the puck but there was an opportunity.

If there was ten minutes left we'd agree it was a mistake right?

So now it's just a matter of agreeing on how much time on the clock there should be before you pull the goalie. I personally think we should've waited. At the very least we should've waited to get possession and had some offensive pressure.

Its a bit too much Monday Morning QBing for me.

Again, had they lost the faceoff I get it, but it went exactly as the coach drew it up and I'm pretty sure the extra man helped win the faceoff because it wasn't won clean.

I'm not gonna shit on MSL cause Hutson made a bad pass.

But that's just me

It could've worked out. I'm sure a lot of folks crapping on him today would've called him a genius.

To me though, that's a little too early to pull and I wouldn't do it unless we already have possession. I say this as a general rule (forward looking) I hope he adheres to in the future. But MSL is the coach and he's gonna do what he's gonna do.

Absolutely amazing. Not entirely sure it's deserved IMHO. But since the Norris trophy is notoriously about offense... then yes. However, I would think some guys have better all around games at this moment in time like Slavin.
Lane Hutson: Received 12 votes in the Norris vote

The kid is.........amazing.

And the goalie should not have been pulled so early last game..........that's on Marty not Lane.

We have one heck of a core being built, with this kid right in the middle of it all.
Give him the Calder, right now.

But I think that's an old news from nhl.com ... I don't think those are the actual votes...

I remember some dweeb on the main a few months ago telling us Hutson won't be 2nd in Norris voting in his sophomore season like Makar did, but guess what mouthbreater, Hutson might get 5th place votes in his rookie season already.
