Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

I bet people arguing with Chris Pronger are subbed to Jpastdue :slaugh:

Jfresh is shit. In an age of high counts of empty net goals, one would be foolish to create charts based on EV stats, which in itself proves just how dumb jfresh is.

In 2019-2020, all teams scored a total of 332 empty net goals. The present season isn't over and we're at 524 empty net goals. That skews EV stats even more. And in Hutson's case, his EV stats are highly skewed by his -12 with an empty net.

All this shows is that when we need a goal late that Hutson is one of Marty’s goto players. For it being 2025 I have not been impressed with hockey analytics at all. Very amateurish and often poorly contextualized. Guys blogging about them couldn’t pass a grade 10 statistics exam.

He's been targeted a lot more this last little bit and that certainly won't change against Washington.

He does look to be wearing down a bit, but that doesn't shock me given this is his first full season. He played 82 games and over 20 minutes a night. Also lead all rookies in scoring. Amazing season.

But no backdown in his game. That board battle last night against a 6'2 200 pound Svechnikov shows there is no quit in this dog (Hutson).

Special player and should be rookie of the year.

Hopefully saved some magic for the playoffs.

Really curious to see how he does in the playoffs. I remember Quinn Hughes first playoffs he got forechecked to oblivion in the first few games. I remember he got smoked a few times too, and there was a shot of him on the bench doing a 1,000 yard stare.

They need to stop letting guys throw high hits on him

Last night he again took an elbow right in the head, gotta be consequences for guys taking runs at this player

He took a couple hard hits tonight which is unusual for him. Thought that last one might have hurt him a bit but he seemed okay. I guess he better get used to it, because playoff hockey is about to have everyone looking to squash him like a bug. lol.

Incredible season for him. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in playoffs.
It's going to be the Caps plan all series long.

Lane's Beardou Playoffs

I feel like his time and space was limited in the last handful of games. Couple of reasons that could be....

- feeling a little pressure and less likely to jump. Wanting to play more cautious
- teams figuring him out a little more
- getting tired. Longest seasons of his life and he has been logging a ton of heavy minutes.

Hoping a little rest before Monday has been good for him.

He's gotta be the calder winner and Ivan has to be the favorite next year.

Bigger than the assists record imo
I view them about equal tbh, but it does dispel the weird notion that he’s a pp specialist only, but having a PP QB like him back there on the first unit is going to bail us out of some tough games over the next decade or more.

I’m not sure Habs fans fully comprehend the magnitude of this achievement. Lane’s skill is otherworldly, but what separates him from others is that compete level and desire to improve. He put these numbers up in his rookie year.

I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say 100 point seasons are on the horizon. We haven’t had a kid like Lane in a very, very, very long time.

He looks exhausted to me and these couple days off hopefully recharge the kid.

He definitely looks a bit drained, which makes a lot of sense, as he's played more hockey this season than he ever has before by a very large margin. He's not quite physically mature yet either, building up his core and stamina should be a big priority this off season. Needs to put some muscle on that frame.

He’s played over 20 minutes a game for 80+ games. No quarter was given during his first NHL season. This kid is the sole reason we are in the playoffs.
