Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

And some scouts said that Cole Hutson will be better LOL!!

59 pts in 73 games... good luck!! Haha!!
Cole is going to be unreal as well. One of the most insanely confident players I've ever seen - I was lower on him (~high 30s) than I was on Lane (10th) pre-draft but I'd have him a lot higher now seeing what he's done in the NCAA.

I think Lane is the smarter of the two, but I think Cole is the smoother skater and is more willing to try anything on the ice.

His adjustment period should be longer than Lane's but if he can adapt he could have a similar impact.

Michkov just got 2 points and is now 1 points behind Hutson. The Calder race is heating up!

Michkov is not winning it regardless of what he does in the remaining games.

Regarding the point race, Michkov almost caught up to Hutson, but Hutson is still likely to finish with the most points among rookies. Michkov has 6 games left, whereas Hutson has 9 games left.

Michkov is on an absolute tear since Torts got fired. 10 points in last 5 games. If he keeps tearing it up and Hutson cools down, I can see Michkov making a run for the Calder. I do think it's unlikely anyone beats Hutson at this point though.

But can he train like Lane did in pratice?!?! Maybe yes, maybe no.

Michkov is not playing meaningful games or even playing on 200 feet. The sad truth is that he's already been beaten by Celebrini, and now he's playing for his stats board to get a bonus.

Hutson is pretty much alone in this race at the moment. If he reaches the 60-pass record of Larry Murphy, he will get the Calder.

Extend him as soon as possible. With the cap rising, another season could cost Habs millions.
I'd love to see him around the same contract money as Suzuki but for 5 years, so he can get a hefty raise when the cap will be around 120 million per season. I wonder if 5x$7,875,000 + 8x$13,500,000 can be a possibility. 147,375,000 for a 13-year career seems good to me. Something around an $11,336,538 cap hit/year along all those seasons. Which would lead to a 35-year-old Hutson. Is it too much, not enough, I do not know, but I hope he signs a team-friendly deal.

For example..lets say that Hudson finish with 65 points and Michkov wirh 68 points.

I mean..65 points for a d is a lot more impressive than 68 for a forward.

For me there is no race anymore no matter how they gonne finish thieir season

If we want to win a cup, we need all the cap savings we can get, so that first contract should ideally be for 8 years.

I understand the idea of maximising his time with the Habs. But in five years, when he's an established star defenceman playing below his true value, the asking price could be a lot more than 13.5 million. By then, we'll probably have seen or be very close to a first 20 million contract.

The Canadiens have a very healthy cap situation and I think Hughes should try to extend him for 8 years. Otherwise, the championship window might be a bit too tight.

The eye-test alone tells me Hughes should tread lightly with Lane's contract negotiations. Hughes is a great and astute adjudicator, I'm confident he'll get it right. Hutson will be the highest paid player on the Habs team by a substantial margin in my opinion.
