Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

I agree but as I said Hutson has the 2 most important asset for a hockey player: IQ and vision

No wonder why Gretzky is the goat..the dude was 170 pounds but...

Yess, 100% agree with you, I'm a 29 years old, I watched a lot of D's in Habs, Hutson is the best offensive D I see.

Defensively is also very good.

The only thing Subban have better is slapshot

lol?

Defense,
Physical condition
Hits
Speed
One Timers
Breakaway's
Stamina
just to name a few

Hutson is good but PK is a true #1 Defender, can Hutson play 30 minutes a game in the playoffs with the same energy, shutting down Prime Ovys and Crosbies while carrying the offense???

Come on now.... what are we talking about.

I like Hutson but PK was a Norris caliber type of defender every year and then come playoff time he was even better than in the regular season.

Those guys definitely need to revisit that 2014 Boston series. PK gave us some really great playoff performances. Maybe it's not all about the points.

Now we all love Hutson here but we gotta see him in the playoffs first.

I agree Hutson hasn't reached prime PK yet, and he never will with some attributes, but he's a slam dunk PPG defenseman I wasn't alive the last time we had one of those

I speak about offense. Subban have slapshot over Hutson. But the rest?!?! Hutson have better offensive IQ, better hands, better passing ability lol!

Yep but he put too much mass on his body and he lost a lot of speed straight line at the age....of....26....only.

I remember , his last season with Mtl...I was like jeez he is so much slower now..

Then in Nashville, he produced cause of his booming shot and not with his puck control and mouvements anymore.

Like Quinn Hughes, Hutson will be considered for the Norris down the road and he should be effective at 30 years old.as well.

In fact I have never seen a player loosing so much speed so early in his career that I saw with Subban.

His upper body had way too much muscles in his mid 20s and it affected his speed...big mistake that he did in his Summer training.

It s amazing and ialmost nobody found that strange. T

Think about that guys..Subban was completely done at the age of...29 his last year with Nashville.....done...at 29.and then he was a shelf of himself.for 3 years after that

Subbans peak was as good as it gets. Even if Hutson never reaches that model, i believe he will be at his own peak for longer. That will be more valuable to us in the end.

Guys think about that.

Our 2 best offensive defenseman in this century at their prime:

P.k Subban' best sesson at his prime with us: 60 points

Andrei Markov's best season at his prime with us: 64 points

+++++

Now...:

Hutson with 9 games to go as a 20-21 year old rookie : 59 points !!!!!!
One thing to note: Subban’s 60 point season came when the scoring leader had like 84 points or something like that. Totally different league.

Subban did quite a few things better. Was more physical, could clear the crease, better shot. Subban was a HOF talent when he was with us. And he was a monster in the playoffs. I’d put him in Chelios territory. He was a blue chip HOFer until the injuries happened.

And even with all that, I’d still take Hutson. That’s saying a lot.

As a five-year-old, you must've glimpsed Markov a few times -- maybe not able to remember, being so young and all ;) -- but Hutson is even better than Markov was. better than PK as well. Only in a different way than those two.

I can't recall any D on the HABS being able to play the style of hockey That Hutson can, even in the dynasty years. There were some awesome Ds, but none that could do what Hutson regularly does.

Subban's back problems from his unorthodox checking style was what likely slowed him down, but, even then, for suburban, it was more about powering forward with the puck, not skating like the wind. Without the back, the powering wasn't so powerful.
